The first episode of Kuch Na Kehna aired last night and here’s what went down. Catch up!

The drama featured new-feel locations with frames and a colour palette that added brightness, big screen feels and attention to detail. The narrative delved into the occult powers, themes of love, politics, inheritance, and of course, conspiracies and betrayal from a cast that packed in performances. However, Kuch Na Kehna threw a whole lot of information overload onto the audiences, and one wonders if the episode might have been more impactful if the story and character reveals were a bit paced out, focused and fewer?
But first, the story
The narrative is set in the village of Moosal, a region known for never encouraging romance to flourish under its watch. Beware all star-struck lovers!
Noora’s character essayed by Savera Nadeem is the second wife of power lord Sardar Jahaniya – portrayed by Naumaan Ijaz. She’s sharp, conspiratorial and in control. Savera comes off with flying colours in the first episode, and although we might have seen her before in shades of deep dark(er), we hope she will pull of different strokes yet again and pull this one off as a standout performance – separate from what we’ve seen her perform earlier.
Enter Shumail essayed by Maha Hassan, daughter from presumably Jahaniya’s first marriage. But she is already in love (the creators aren’t wasting time here), with Nauroz (Usama Khan), and that defines her entirely for the time being. Nauroz works as Jahaniya’s employee and it seems their covert romance is about to be discovered as they make no secret of their rendezvous – case in point, the photography session where Shumail was ready to sweep him off his feet, despite the multitude of guards in attendance. Nonetheless, great cinematography and performances kept us invested, so if the lovers are a bit careless, we’ll let that pass, because the story is in their love story reveal, after all!
And that’s when the ‘drama’ will truly take off!
But wait a minute…
hat do we see here from Noora if not a hint of black magic, employing the dark powers to play havoc with the residents of the lavish mansion they inhabit. Shumail might not bear a child, Noora wants to still give birth to Jahaniya’s successor first, so she’s working her powers on Shumail. And to make matters more complex, Jabru aka Syed Jibran seems to be lurking in the shadows. But although Noora seems to be interested in him, why is he so interested in Shumail?
And while we play round robin with this love triangle, there’s the power politics to deal with. Which is, you guessed it, a bit of an overload in the first episode.
Safe to say, Kuch Na Kehna is an interesting initiative with a master cast yet, a bit of a muddle when it comes to introducing the story line and characters in episode 1.
Safe to say the story has a lot going for it: Conspiracy, intrigues, power struggles, romance, black magic and performances, we will keep an eye on this one for the next few weeks because we feel things are about to get intense in the Kuch Na Kehna household!
A word on the direction
With eye catching cinematography, new locations, and attention to detail regarding wardrobe, camera angles and frames, the drama invites you to almost step into the canvas and take in the rich colours and scenery that make Kuch Na Kehna worth a watch.
We hope the story, though fast-paced, manages to keep pace with the viewers. This is one drama where the creators have decided to dive in neck deep in the narrative, and, a step back in the next few episodes will iron out any intricacies in the story line.
Watch Kuch Na Kehna for a promising new story and let us know if this one’s for you!
