The week in rewind – here’s everything you missed (or couldn’t stop talking about)

1. Three-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling Into Open Manhole In Karachi, Public Demands Accountability

A tragic incident has claimed the life of a three-year-old boy in Karachi after he fell into an uncovered manhole near Nipa Chowrangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. According to local reports, the family had visited a departmental store for shopping. As they exited, the child – identified as Ibrahim, son of Nabeel – pulled free from his father’s grasp and ran ahead. A motorcycle parked close by obscured the view of an open manhole, and the boy tragically fell into it.
Rescue efforts began after the incident, with emergency services including Rescue 1122 and other volunteer organisations mobilising. The search continued through the night, despite challenges such as inadequate lighting and the absence of vital infrastructure: responders lacked official sewerage maps, heavy machinery, and concrete details about the drain’s layout – all complicating the operation.
On Monday, authorities recovered the child’s body, found 30 to 40 feet away from the site of the fall – officials said the strong water flow inside the drain had swept him away. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
City residents and community leaders now demand urgent and decisive measures: a comprehensive audit of all drains and manholes in Karachi, immediate installation of covers on all open drains, clarity on which agency is responsible for maintenance, and ensuring a responsive complaint-handling mechanism. They insist that such steps are essential to prevent further loss of life.
2. 4 Reasons I’m Looking Forward To The New Drama Serial Kafeel

The teasers for Kafeel, featuring Sanam Saeed and Emmad Irfani, have just been released – and they don’t just promise a romance, they hint at a layered, possibly troubled relationship. The visuals, settings, and mood set the stage for something more complex than your typical love‑story. Rather than showing simple happy beginnings, the teasers suggest a story where connection, conflict, and emotional weight might coexist. It feels like the drama could explore not just attraction, but pain, struggle, and survival within relationships – a tone that immediately sets it apart.
Wondering why we are looking forward to this one? Here are our four major reasons!

4. 5 Life Lessons in Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi

While Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi draws the curtain with an entertaining finale, one can look beyond the comic to find lessons in the lives we live, how we resolve conflicts and seek peace in times where war and hostility seems to be the norm. The drama, while fielding a comic narrative interspersed with life lessons, sent out some layered messaging if one were to but look beyond the obvious. From the presence of supernatural beings- jinns amidst us to power play and conflict resolution on today’s complex socio-political world, Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi had loads to say, but thankfully, in non preachy yet clever ways.
And deconstructing the layers is what we do best. So in case you missed it, these are the some of the coded messages in the narrative that need to be highlighted well, because, they’re relevant to the world we inhabit today. Read more!
5. Crowning the 5 Queens and Kings of Rage Baiting: Oxford Word of 2025 Explained In Pakistani Drama Characters
She’s making us so angry we could rage bait 2025 into Back to the Future Part 4 – unsee the whole year as if it never existed. He’s giving us reasons to troll, she’s obviously not synced into the rest of the world, he’s a walking talking red flag, don’t we know one when we see one…?
Felt that way while watching a Pakistani drama lately? Then you’ve caught the term right where it belongs!
“Rage bait,” is the slang term announced as the 2025 word of the year by Oxford University Press (OUP) – designed to elicit anger and drive internet traffic. Rage bait is the term that does it all, from viral engagement on social media feeds to angry shares, trolling and all – the reward? More clicks, more views and you guessed it, more revenue for online creators.
Hence, rage baiting it is, as the buzz word that gets you into business faster than a college degree. But hold on a sec, the term has manifested itself into the Pakistani drama diaspora faster than you can say ‘Drama’ in characters that challenge our resolve to stay calm, forcing us to comment, criticize, share and hold an opinion on a show or character that goes viral for all the wrong reasons – rage baiting it is then, but do we even know how the term has crept into our daily watch experience and how often we’re exposed to it?
So after a not so long think, and minimal brainstorming (yes it was that easy and the word that rampant), we realized that Pakistani drama characters are perhaps, the best manifestation of the term onscreen – so for all those who are struggling to understand the term fully, this is what rage baiting looks like in a character, and here’s why?
6. What’s The Verdict On Neelofar? A FUCHSIA Review

As I made my way into the cinema, the only thought in my mind was that I must not miss the start of the movie. Was I expecting to have a great time? Not really. I went with zero expectations. I was just looking forward to watching the movie, waiting anxiously to know what the story was about and desperately wondering whether we will finally have an original Pakistani movie with no copy-paste from Bollywood and no sub-par content.
Before we start, I want to say this, it is not fair to say this movie is not for everyone. I feel we are underestimating the audience; we are questioning their intelligence or perceptive side by saying this. Yes, Kamli or Laal Kabootar might not have been everyone’s cup of tea, but Neelofar is for everyone. And to decide whether to not like it or to love it, you must watch it. I honestly feel even if you end up questioning it, there are still so many things in the movie that will leave an impact on you.
What a treat it must be for everyone from Lahore to see those familiar landmarks and locations and see them shot so beautifully and then interwoven into the storyline. Neelofar’s screenplay taking in the vibe of a beloved city, is a great service to Pakistan and tourism in Pakistan. It totally shows off Lahore as a city worth adding to the must-visit places on your travel list, and that is true irrespective of whether you are in Pakistan or outside Pakistan. Neelofar serves as a mini travelogue, highlighting shopping places, places of art and theatre, local and western food spots, bus and local guide tours in all their grandeur. The best part is that the camera revealed Lahore in all its character, owning the cracks in the walls, all the imperfections of the city, but still beautiful.
It is difficult to review a movie without delivering spoilers. Here is our full verdict!
