While Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi draws the curtain with an entertaining finale, one can look beyond the comic to find lessons in the lives we live, how we resolve conflicts and seek peace in times where war and hostility seems to be the norm.

The drama, while fielding a comic narrative interspersed with life lessons, sent out some layered messaging if one were to but look beyond the obvious. From the presence of supernatural beings- jinns amidst us to power play and conflict resolution on today’s complex socio-political world, Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi had loads to say, but thankfully, in non preachy yet clever ways.
And deconstructing the layers is what we do best. So in case you missed it, these are the some of the coded messages in the narrative that need to be highlighted well, because, they’re relevant to the world we inhabit today.
Of Peaceful Coexistence
The conversation between Azar and Ali’s family sent out messages of forgiveness – when Asad chose to forgive Azar for all the wrongs he committed against his ancestors, as well as choosing peaceful co existence between the two families going forward – when Asad invited Chamki and Azar to live amongst them, it was a lesson in leaving the past behind and embarking on new beginnings for a new generation – Asad and Ali.
Of Finding Solutions
The negotiations on wedding festivities mirrored those of two opposing nations seeking middleground and finding solutions rather than sparking disagreements.
While Asad and Ali discouraged Fareeda from demanding Jahez or enforcing unnecessary wedding rituals on a community that did not follow them, they also explained that their guests might be alarmed to see Jinns among them. Azar’s clarification that they will invite the entire qabeela but that won’t be a problem as they won’t be visible to humans was a good compromise. And the wedding meal? The drama kept it light here and entertained audiences with a quick solution – that shouldn’t be a problem to conjure up with so much magic in attendance.
Of Tolerance
While Khushi converted to Islam, Chamki and Azar were not under pressure to do the same, yet maintained a positive perspective about humans. That too, is a lesson to mankind – respect each other’s stance rather than forcing your own beliefs on others.
Khushi’s acceptance of Islam was also shown as a decision she arrived at without compulsion and the creators played it subtle so as not to make it appear preachy.
Of Unity
Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi further showed how it is our own people who cause conflict and disunity when we cross over to the other side. As did Nadia and her mom. But our faith and courage, and staying together in times of adversity, just like Ali and Asad, despite Asad not agreeing to Ali’s marriage with a jinn, was perhaps what saved the day and helped them fight the Jinns’ qabeela. It also possibly showed Nadia and her mom the light, that togetherness is more powerful than causing divisions between your own people.
Intermarriages between communities
Finally, the marriage between a human and jinn symbolises the acceptance and in fact, embracing of alien cultures and people, the only way to truly understand and respect each other’s way of life. The ceasefire so to speak, between jinns and humans (Azar and Asad), might not have been possible if in fact Ali and Khushi had not cared for each other.
And that dear folks, is why JKSUKS went beyond mere horror-comedy to give us life lessons in humanity.
We bet you didn’t think that deep, but if you did, drop us a comment and tell us what we missed!
