Faran Tahir is one of those rare actors whose journey doesn’t sit neatly in one industry or geography. For many audiences today, he is reappearing on Pakistani screens in dramas like Leader, where he plays Agha Wasif, and Bas Tera Saath Ho as Mursaleen – roles that feel like a quiet homecoming after years of international work. But long before this phase, he had already built a career across Hollywood, theatre, and global cinema, moving between worlds that rarely overlap for actors from this region.

Faran Tahir sat down with FUCHSIA as he reflected on that entire journey, from struggles to international projects while also navigating identity, and family life. What stands out in his story is not just the scale of what he has done, but how grounded he remains about all of it. For him, success was never the destination; staying balanced through it all has been the real challenge.

“Don’t forget, these are wild animals” – inside The Jungle Book experience

One of Faran Tahir’s earliest major international projects was The Jungle Book, where he played Mowgli’s father in the live-action adaptation. The experience, as he describes it, was both exciting and slightly ‘surreal’ not just because of the scale of the film, but because of the environment he was working in. He recalls early morning call times where he would be on set having breakfast while a lion sat at a distance, gradually becoming more familiar with the crew and the space.

Over time, the set developed its own rhythm, even bringing tables closer as the animal became more accustomed to the surroundings. But one moment shifted everything, when a stunt double for Mowgli, a much shorter man, entered the set. The lion reacted unexpectedly, and what followed was immediate chaos. Trainers rushed in, securing the animal, while the stunt coordinator stepped in to manage the situation.

In that moment, he remembers being reminded of something very simple but very real: these were not trained pets, but wild animals. “Don’t forget that these are wild animals. These are not pet cats,” he recalls being told. That line stayed with him, not because of fear alone, but because it underlined how quickly things could flip in such environments. Still, despite the unpredictability, he calls the experience unforgettable — especially because he had grown up watching The Jungle Book and suddenly found himself inside its world.

The long road to Iron Man

If The Jungle Book felt surreal, his experience with Iron Man was defined by pressure and patience. Faran Tahir who played Raza, went through an extensive audition process for the film (of course, it’s Marvel so everything’s to the point), which he describes as stretching across months and multiple rounds including around nine different stages.

At one stage, he even had a chemistry test with Robert Downey Jr., part of Marvel’s effort to see how actors would fit within the larger universe. Faran remembers the process as emotionally demanding, not because of discouragement, but because of the uncertainty that came with each step. There was even a moment after one audition where, instead of being sent away, he was told to stay nearby “go get a coffee and wait.” Half an hour later, he received a callback. It was one of those unpredictable industry moments that stayed with him, reinforcing something he has learned over time: you never really know what will work or when something will click.

What also stood out to him during these international sets was the culture of professionalism. He spoke about actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges as people who completely separate ego from work. Downey, he recalls, once told him to keep things simple focus on the work, do the scene, and not get lost in pressure. For Faran, that attitude became an important lesson about staying grounded even in high-stakes environments.

“I am what I am” – identity, struggle & staying grounded through it all

Faran Tahir also spoke candidly about moments abroad where his identity as a Pakistani and Muslim became a point of curiosity for others. He recalled being asked unusual questions simply upon being introduced, as if identity itself was something to be explained or examined. One reaction even left him puzzled, prompting him to respond simply that he doesn’t walk around announcing who he is, he just is.

Over time, his response to such moments became calmer and more matter-of-fact. “I am what I am,” he said, explaining that identity is not something he performs or defends on demand. With the rise of social media and greater global awareness, he feels such reactions are few and far between now, but early in his career, they were more common and often surprising.

His journey was also shaped by very real struggles. He recalls periods where he didn’t have enough money for transport and would walk miles just to attend auditions. There were days when he survived on extremely limited resources, managing basic food for weeks at a time. But instead of seeing these experiences as setbacks, he describes them as part of the foundation of his career.

Despite everything, quitting was never an option for him. He describes himself as someone naturally optimistic, someone who keeps going even when things are uncertain. For him, resilience is not about avoiding difficulty, it’s more about continuing regardless of it.

That mindset also connects to his personal life, especially his experience as a single father, where he spent years managing school runs, travel, and parenting responsibilities alone. Alongside that, his bond with his brothers, actor Ali Tahir and another brother who works as a banker, also reflects a deeply rooted family structure where support, criticism, and honesty coexist naturally.

And at the centre of it all remains a philosophy he often returns to: success and failure can both overwhelm you if you are not grounded. For Faran , the real work has never just been acting, it has been staying steady through everything that comes with it.

Currently,, Pakistani drama fans can catch Faran Tahir onscreen as Agha Wasif in Leader and Mursaleen in Bas Tera Saath Ho. If you haven’t caught up on the drama stories, then catch up with FUCHSIA!
