There’s definitely something about a newly announced Pakistani drama that attracts our attention right from the get-go. It’s a teaser drop fest, first looks get maximum traction on social media, and pretty soon, we are trying to guess which of them is worth adding to our list of dramas to watch.
From fresh pairings and promising storylines to dramas bringing some familiar faces back in roles we haven’t seen them play before, there’s quite a bit to look forward to. While it’s too early to say which shows will actually live up to the hype, these three upcoming dramas have already caught our attention.
So, if you’re someone who loves keeping up with the latest Pakistani dramas, here are three new shows coming your way that you might want to keep an eye on.
1. New Drama Ft. Danish Taimoor & Anmol Baloch
Starring Danish Taimoor and Anmol Baloch together for the first time, this drama serial, at least from what we’ve seen in the teasers so far, gives us a very familiar and somewhat predictable storyline. Danish Taimoor appears in his ever-classic avatar as the wealthy, perfectly suited man with a powerful presence that isn’t always a positive one, while Anmol Baloch seems to be playing the strong-willed, no-nonsense woman who isn’t afraid to fight back or put people in their place, a character quite similar to what we saw from her in Iqtidar. The teasers suggest that when attraction turns into an intense chase, things may not be as simple as they seem. We’re hoping the drama eventually brings something new to this familiar setup, but for now, it does feel like we’ve seen this story before, especially when we know where these opposites usually end up.
The drama is written by Maha Malik and directed by Seraj ul Haq. It is produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment.
2. Baar-e-Wafa
Starring Osman Khalid Butt, Sidra Niazi, Hadiqa Kiani, Asma Abbas and Syed Jibran, Baar-e-Wafa appears to tell a story set against the backdrop of war, global unrest and the uncertainty that comes with times of conflict. Rather than focusing only on patriotism and heroism, the telefilm seems to explore how national and international crises can deeply affect ordinary people, their relationships, choices and everyday lives. With media and journalism also playing an important role, the story looks at how people seek truth and make sense of a rapidly changing world, while themes of love, loyalty, responsibility, resilience and sacrifice come together to show that patriotism can also mean standing by others and choosing humanity in difficult times.
Baar-e-Wafa is written by Noor ul Huda Shah and directed by Saife Hasan. It is being produced by Sultana Siddiqui.
3. Raqaas
Starring Danyal Zafar and Komal Meer together for the first time, Raqaas looks like a refreshing mix of music, romance, family feuds and drama, set against some breathtaking scenic locations. The story appears to revolve around characters whose lives are deeply connected to music and art, while long-standing conflicts and personal rivalries add another layer to the narrative. Danyal Zafar is also seen in a relatively different avatar, giving us a glimpse of a side of the actor we haven’t seen much of before. With its fresh pairing, picturesque setting and a storyline that seems to bring together love, ambition, family tensions and the world of music, Raqaas certainly looks like it could offer something a little different from the usual Pakistani drama formula.
