5. Zanjeerain
This week’s episodes of Zanjeerain felt a bit weak, stretched out a bit, with repetitive scenes and no real development in the plot. Considering Sarbuland is an educated Sardar and not your traditional one, the Jirga thing could have been portrayed better. Plus, Shirin and both Zafrans’ exits were very abrupt and sudden. All in all, the episodes moved in circles.
4. Aik Mohabbat Aur
Aik Mohabbat Aur started off strong but ended up not being what it started like. The story had potential when it focused on Khushbakht’s character and the single mum’s story. It was very progressive of the script, but it lasted only for a few episodes. By the end of it, it was more about Haroon being her saviour than about her. The story somehow managed to portray Haroon as the ultimate superhero, which was never the motive of the story.
3. Bas Tera Saath Ho
Shehreen and Faham’s story finally concluded, but we can’t wrap our heads around why Anas is still not telling Ansa that it was Shayan who made the video. Ansa is still doing everything for herself and not Anas. The story is lagging somewhere in between, and it’s not moving the way we expected it to.
2. Dar-e-Nijaat
The drama holds up a mirror to all of us, practicing our faith in different ways. Through the interaction of her characters, Umera Ahmed shows us all the worlds we inhabit as followers of the Muslim faith. Zamil feels lost. He is trying to become a practicing Muslim and thinks that the only person between him and his faith is Zaryab. The soothing Quranic tilawat is a beautiful way to start the episode. The writer is striking a very fine balance between all these characters, and it touches upon different emotions and perspectives without making the story feel too one-dimensional.
1. Aap Ki Izzat
Aap Ki Izzat continues to strike a powerful chord by confronting the dangerous idea of “honor” that is used to justify controlling a woman’s life, freedom, and choices. When men like Tabish believe that protecting their so-called honor gives them the right to take a life, while denying a woman the legal right to walk away from a marriage, it reflects some of the gravest realities of our society. Ahsan Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Urwa Hocane, all three are delivering deeply moving performances.
