Rapper Ali Gul Pir was served a legal notice when he used the term ‘alleged harasser” – he’s now comeback with a full blown rap song about the incident!

Ali Gul Pir just woke up the rapper in himself and posted a new song and it has drawn a mixed reaction from fans and followers!

Ali Gul Pir, Ali Zafar
I am calling this song Channo Ki Maut, and he’s named Teefa in the lyrics.

This is how Ali announced his new song on Twitter:

NEW SONG ALERT! I dedicate this song to all those who try and have tried to silence me. Watch it and share #KarleJoKarnaHai

The Rapper story goes back to an earlier tweet in August:

“A self proclaimed “rockstar” didn’t like that I called him an “alleged harasser” and made a joke about him. If I got arrested for every satire piece I’ve written, I’d be a resident of Karachi Central Jail” – Ali Gul Pir

Ali also tweeted the

What is really bewildering is the anger in his voice. The rapper seems to be in palpable rage, the lyrics come unforced, and the gestures just as pronounced. In earlier videos, Ali seemed to be hanging between comedy and black comedy – always a raunchy kind of wit, yet, controlled. But in this video, he has let loose his demons. Ali is ANGRY, very angry, and it shows. He just doesn’t CARE #Karlejokarnahai

“Ali gul peer vs ali zafar now on 🔥😂” – fan comment on YouTube

Another fan comments: “I am calling this song “Channo ki Moat” 🔥 🔥 More power to you for speaking up!!! This is a punch up.”

“The legend is back❤️❤️ comments another.”

However, some negative reaction as Twitter comments:

“Honestly, the lyrics are very offensive and the video is actually promoting violence (that too by children), not sure what kind of solidarity it’s supposed to show.”

Yes, the lyrics are offensive, but then, vloggers have repeatedly voiced that they cannot be creative if they are to be silenced with censorship.

Reaction from Karachi lovers too:

“amazing song a best of all is that it is shooted on streets of karachi…. 🔥,💯💯😍 stay blessed Ali bhai”

Perhaps this was the crowning highlight of the song; the video screens street dancers, young men and women off the streets of Lyari. There is a special thanks offered to the people of Lyari in credits at the end.

And then the voice of reason from one YouTube follower:

“Give it a read on my 2 cents I like both of you but this song is pure immaturity, you both are celebrities not underground artist & secondly you both have struggled but Ali zafar has done more struggle then you despite I’m sorry to say Ali Gul Pir has lost respect, underground/rappers k beech mein chaltey hain”

Ali Gul Pir has said his piece and the message is loud and clear. Most followers have lauded his courage to speak up his mind, but some have criticised the way in which he has done it – very few have out rightly condemned the video – is #KarlejoKarnaHai echoing the nation’s voice?

From #Metoo to the #MisuseofMetoo

The questions to ask:

Are you ever innocent once you have been called out in public?

When an ‘alleged harasser’ such as Ali Zafar is cleared by the courts, and declared innocent, will he always live with the blame? Will the people’s court ever forgive him?

Are we now facing a revolution in the way our activism finds voice?

Social media: YouTube and Twitter are powerful tools with very little censorship. Is that good or bad for the future of our generation?

What is Art?

There is a very fine line dividing Art from vulgarity. Offensiveness is very subjective, how do we, in a society like Pakistan, deal with the creative process to keep it pure, yet culturally acceptable?

And finally, What will Teefa do now?

Is he still in trouble, or will it all fizzle into nothing? Only time will tell, but for now, the debate is wide open, yet again.
