As usual, only a handful of hospitals in the city will admit cases that might need police investigation – leaving the victims with little choice!
As of last night, Karachi’s Keamari area is a no-go zone. An incident occurred late last night when a shipment arrived at the port, omitting harmful gases causing around 4 deaths and leaving about 50 people with respiratory problems. People affected by the gases were rushed to Ziauddin Hospital in Clifton, where they were not all accommodated. The health officials were instructed to move people to Jinnah and Abbasi hospitals. Fortunately, most of them are now recovering and in better health.
Why is our first course of action denial?
Pakistan Today Profit, has reported that officials have denied that the port was the source of the problem, and that the people who were being admitted to the hospitals were from other parts of the area, on the other hand it is also reported by Samaa TV, that Ali Zaidi, the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs admitted that the port had a ship packed with chemicals docked there. We are optimistic that officials will get to the bottom of this. It would help if we owned our mistakes and took responsibility so that we help put in place, a process to prevent a future tragedy!
As the Keamari Leak investigation is still ongoing, we advise caution & safety in visiting Keamari and nearby areas in the immediate future. We also hope that proper precautionary measures will be set, in order to make sure nothing like this happens in the future.
