Yun Tu Hai Pyar Bohut – Are We Watching Only For Affan Waheed & Hira Mani?
This week’s story of Yun Tu Hai Pyar Bohat went around in circles with minimum plot development, iterating the same issues as were highlighted in previous weeks’ episodes.
We finally got to see Aima landing her first job as a lawyer. Although the job is no way near her dream job: less salary with a not so patient boss, Aima is bound to take it and finally get a chance to practice her profession. However, things in her household are not running smoothly either as she struggles to pay the daily bills, her mother spots her husband who left her for another woman while her sister attempts to take on a new pursuit of modelling which seems like a dead end till now.
The three women embark on different challenges and fail to share them with one another. Aima’s sister (Nazi) is shown to be a bit too ambitious (well, after all who isn’t in this drama in one way or the other?) decides to pursue modelling as a career. Reality hits her when despite being selected, she doesn’t land a job. Meanwhile, her (supposedly) step sister Sonya is on a new road of self destruction where she has made it her life’s ambition to win Zain over at any cost.
Sonya’s character is a spoilt brat who thinks she has claim over anything and anyone however and whenever she wants. A character seen too often in our Pakistani dramas btw! And hopefully only an extreme depiction of an evil side of human nature, after all how many times do you hear in real life that a woman has become obsessed with a man she just met a few days ago and that too, one who is not interested in her?
On the other hand, Zain continues to pursue his singing career and we got a little bit more of a sneak peak into the lives of his neighbors. The family of three have a secret to hide and with so much screen time given to them we are expecting them to play a major role in the story as it progresses further.
The drama has a stable story line which is unwrapping at a steady pace. We get to see character development of each of the characters as the story progresses further however, there are a few ‘plot holes’ that make us want to ask why? We just have one question…why do you think that the audience is so obtuse as to not notice the flaws?
Butt…
Firstly, as we know that Zain is a struggling artist who barely earns enough to sustain himself, where does he get all the money to but toys and fruits for the neighbours? And since Zain has moved to the new city we don’t know how he’s managing his finances in a new city and what kind of job did he land? And more importantly, how do Sonya’s and Aima’s family land in the same public place at the same time? With the visible social class difference among them how can they time and again go to the same restaurant to eat and visit the same store for shopping? Maybe they could have seen each other outside the store or maybe a pharmacy? But this chance encounter required a stretch of the imagination and took away from the plot.
Nevertheless, the story has us hooked and we are looking forward to the next week’s episodes. Perhaps because, we’re watching Hira & Affan onscreen and hoping for a love saga to play out – tell us if that’s why you’re watching too?
