The second episode of Ishq E Laa aired last night and we have a lot to say!
Till now, we haven’t been able to decide whether it was the headstrong and wilful Shanaya or the obnoxious and self-centered Azlan, or the innocent yet resilient Azka who grasped our attention the most. Perhaps, it was a blend of these three protagonists backed up by a spiffing supporting cast.
The second episode of Ishq e Laa digs deep into the psyche of each character and unravels more shades of each of their characters, especially the three protagonists.
The separate track of Shanaya has us hooked on its own. Played by the brilliant Sajal Aly, Shanaya is winning our hearts. Her honesty and hardheartedness, backed by her resilient nature to bring a positive change has made us fall in love with her personality. From buying gajras from a child to the scene where she fights for the woman who was getting abused, everything was well shot and gave us a deeper understanding of her character. Even from the promo, we can see that she is not coming slow and refuses to bow down. Way to go Shanaya!
And we have to mention that Sajal looked mesmerizing in all her scenes. The girl definitely knows how to rock a simple kurta. Needless to say, we are falling for those curls!
The narrative has grabbed our attention because it potrays active debate on social issues. Unlike other dramas, it not only highlights the seriousness of the issues and their grievance, but also focuses on depicting different perspectives on how people think about certain topics.
Azlan and Shanaya certainly have a bone to pick about underlying issues that Shanaya seemingly brushes under the rug to avoid conflicts. How they both settle on one page and avoid misunderstandings in their relationship as they venture onto their own paths led by their ambitions will be a treat to watch.
Now coming to our hero…ahem can we even call him that? Well, he certainly looks like one but unfortunately, we cannot say the same when it comes to his personality. Azlan is shown to be an entitled brat who feasts on his ego and on his own success which he has earned at a fairly young age. Little does he care about the others’ pain and has guarded himself in his own bubble.
Azlan And Shanaya: What Does The Future Hold For Them?
Moreover, we see a possessive side to Azlan. As we have already seen from the promos, Azlan and Shanaya marry (btw update, they are just friends for now and Azlan has no intention of marrying her) and it will not be an easy marriage from the looks of it. What we can predict is, over possessiveness on the part of Azlaan which might be his ‘way of expressing his love’ but, this might lead to a conflict or two. Well, for now, we have to wait for the upcoming episodes to see how their relationship grows further.
Let’s come to our innocent Azka. All we can say is Yumna can make you cry with her and this she proves time and again. We were completely invested whenever she was on screen and loved every bit of it. Her interaction with her niece had all our attention. Her belief in Allah is reiterated again and again and we can expect a bit of a spiritual journey as she faces the obstacles presented to her.
Lastly, the supporting cast was amazing. From Sohail Sameer and Uzma Hassan as Azka’s brother and sister-in-law and Seemi Raheel, Laila Wasti, and Adnan Samad Khan, they were all convincing in their respective roles. We are completely hooked to Ishq E Laa and can’t wait for the story to unfold.
