We can’t be the only ones totally swooned by Aina Asif’s performance in Hum Tum! Her character Milli is refreshing, without seeming forced or OTT. A teenager who does Karate and is most of the time confused between her karunges and karungas – what’s not to love about her? We are floored every time she appears on screen.
FUCHSIA sat down with her to uncover how such a tiny body can contain such an insane amount of talent! She took us back to where it all began, what’s in store for her in the coming months, everything that happened behind the scenes of the much loved Ramazan drama, Hum Tum, & why she has the most fun with Ahad Raza Mir on set!
How It All Started
This 13-year-old started her career with modeling and a few TV commercials. However, her first-ever acting role was in ‘Pehli Si Mohabbat‘ as Maya Ali’s character’s younger self. It was a two-day shoot but it was then that she decided this is what she enjoys doing and wants to pursue.
Fun fact alert! The little boy who played Sheheryar Munawar’s reel life younger brother is actually Aina’s real-life brother! This is also the reason Aina got interested in acting because her brother would come home and tell her stories about the drama set.
Being only a few projects old, every character of hers is different from her previous ones. After ‘Pehli Si Mohabbat’, she did ‘Badnaseeb’ in which she played a negative character. Playing a negative character at her age is testament to the kind of talent she has to offer. Then came Hadiqa Kiani and Omair Rana’s yet-to-be-released starrer, ‘Pinjira’ in which she’s playing Abeer – a character that has many shades (as revealed by Aina).

Now we come to the much-loved post-iftaar entertainer, Hum Tum. Here’s how Hum Tum happened for Aina.
Another Fun Fact alert! Aina was initially approached for Sasha’s character which is being played by another talented child actor, Anosheh Rania Khan. However, Aina’s shoot dates for ‘Pinjira’ and ‘Hum Tum’ were clashing so she had to do Milli’s character (which she is doing justice to completely).
About Her Character Milli In Hum Tum
Surprisingly, doing Karate wasn’t a part of Milli’s character from the start, she was into modeling instead! We are glad this change happened because the Karate angle adds miles to Milli’s character. Don’t you agree?
When asked if portraying Milli was challenging, Aina answered yes with resounding clarity! It was challenging for her because it was completely different than what she had done before. She had never done comedy before Hum Tum. But that’s the beauty of acting, she quips. You get to play so many personalities while leaving yours outside the set.
The ones who are following Hum Tum know that Milli is a tomboy and we see that in her outfits! Aina revealed that she took Milli’s outfit inspiration from Pinterest and went on a shopping spree to buy baggy clothes to play her!
Karunge, Karunga – Is Milli Confused?
Another Fun Fact to contemplate – We wanted to know why Milli is confused between karungi and karunga. What’s the story behind it?
Aina explained, quite meticulously, that because Milli has grown up around brothers, she has picked up on how they talk. Just like we start talking like the ones close to us or spend the most time with.
We were pleasantly surprised at how deeply Aina thinks about her characters and their backgrounds!
On Her Co-Actors in Hum Tum
Aina told us she has the most fun with Ahad on set because he is super energetic and helpful! She takes inspiration from his craft and tries to incorporate his acting techniques in her next scenes.
She is in love with Sarah Khan’s soothing voice (pretty much just like all of us). Ramsha Khan hugs Aina every time they meet and this affection is what Aina adores. Junaid Khan, she stated, makes everyone on the set laugh by cracking jokes out of nowhere! How fun does that sound?
