On Sunday, Shoaib Akhtar made an announcement on social media about the release of his biopic which has been named ‘Rawalpindi Express- Running Against The Odds’ after his field nickname. The film is set to release on 16th November 2023 and is directed by Muhammad Faraz Qaiser under the banner of Q Film Productions.
Shoaib shared a 24 seconds clip on Twitter with the caption, ‘Beginning of this beautiful journey. Announcing the launch of my story, my life, my Biopic, “RAWALPINDI EXPRESS – Running against the odds” You’re in for a ride you’ve never taken before. The first foreign film is about a Pakistani Sportsman. Controversially yours, Shoaib Akhtar.’
The clip is set in a hazy and blurry frame with train tracks in the middle, a homage to Shoaib’s moniker “Rawalpindi Express”. The clip zooms in on Shoaib Akhtar with his back to the camera who seems to be running wearing a shirt with the number 14 written on it. An intense background score is featured in the clip with the train’s whistle heard in the end.
“If you think you know a lot already, you’re mistaken. You’re in for a ride you’ve never taken before. An international project by Q Film Productions [and the] first foreign film about a Pakistani sportsman.”

Shoaib Akhtar made his Test match debut in November 1997. He has been nicknamed the ‘Rawalpindi Express’ and was the first bowler to be recorded bowling at 100 miles per hour, a feat he achieved twice in his career.
The former Pakistan cricket team pacer played 46 Tests, 163 ODIs and 15 T20Is taking 178, 247 and 19 wickets in the three formats respectively. However, more than the number of his wickets, it was his speed that terrified batters. He holds the record of the fastest recorded delivery in cricket of 161kmph (vs New Zealand, 2002).
