3 NGOs In Pakistan Prioritizing Education For The Less-Privileged

Here are three NGOs which have prioritized education, giving them a chance to excel in life and make the best out of it. Read more below.

3 NGOs In Pakistan Prioritizing Education For The Less-Privileged

Pakistan’s current literacy rate, according to the government of Pakistan is 62.3 percent, meaning that an average of 60 million population is illiterate. This can be due to lack of resources, beliefs (especially in rural or tribal areas), lack of ease and accessibility in certain areas. To counter this issue, we have a few NGOs which are playing their part to the fullest, providing education and giving the lower class and under privileged an opportunity to go to schools and get the basic education and skillsets needed in order to survive and excel in life. With that being said, here are three NGOs which have prioritized education and have pulled all strings to achieve their aim.

1. Zindagi Trust

Zindagi Trust is a non profit organization, based in Karachi which aims to changing local government schools and transform them into modern institutions, which have academic innovation, an effective and rich curriculum and extra curricular activities. As of now, Zindagi Trust has two schools, SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School and Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School.

‘Our impact includes revamped and new school facilities; individual student achievements in academics and beyond; the introduction of programs like art, sports and chess; student wellness initiatives such as breakfast, healthcare and counseling; teacher professional development; customised blended learning through software; and, most importantly, change in national and provincial education policy.’

As well as tranforming these schools, Zindagi Trust has trained the present admin and staff, ensuring they come through, engage with their student and leave a mark on them for the better.

2. The Walkway School (TWS)

With the core belief that children, irrespective of their ethnicity, gender, backgrounds, deserve education and the same level of respect as anyone else, The Walkway School hopes for creating a safe haven for children and give them the opportunities they might be missing out on. It aims on giving children, especially in rural areas a chance to learn and engage in the fast paced society we live in.

‘Our aim is to empower children from underdeveloped and long ignored communities to help them become a part of mainstream society. We, as a social enterprise, have remained focused towards the provision of education specifically its access in far rural areas of Pakistan. 

The Walkway School

The story of how TWS started is heartbreaking, but thought provoking at the same time. Being served chai by a child triggered the discussion and thought of the less privileged, and how they could help them. Two friends took a ‘ a vow to replace begging bowls with pencils,’ and that’s how the story of TWS began. Initiatives and dreams do come through.

3. Literate Pakistan Foundation

Literate Pakistan Found bases it’s work on research and development, through which it develops education and literacy programs. Designing curriculum, training teachers for the better. It also offers fast track remedial programs to low income schools, helps implement and assess the progress of the programs.

We ensure a high quality training of literacy and non-formal education. To do that, our trainers and monitors are always on the move. No region is too far for us, and no terrain is too difficult.’

It’s uplifting and heartwarming to see such work being carried out by different NGOs at different levels. These children are the future of Pakistan and helping them will go a long way!
