A powerful script that will catch your attention, engage you, catch you by surprise (or shock), and make you think and ask questions. Scroll down to read FUCHSIA’s review of Pinjra.
Khadija and Javed are a conservative couple with two sons and a daughter, who believe in maintaining strict control over their children’s activities – closely monitoring academic performance and daily schedule, comparing their children’s achievements with each other and one-way communication are some of the issues that the family is plagued with.
The drama pitches two schools of thought against each other – Khadija played by Hadiqa Kiani and Wajiha played by Sunita Marshal. Wajiha, a single mother and an air hostess, is relaxed in her parenting approach towards her children, trusts them more, gives them freedom to do what they want and keeps a more relaxed atmosphere at home. Khadija on the other hand, micro manages her children’s lives and manages a strict daily schedule whereby her children follow a planned routine and must keep up with academic performance.
The drama must be applauded for addressing issues like social media bullying, peer pressure on children about owning gadgets, freedom to choose the field of their interest, teen anxiety – some of the common issues that are faced by today’s youth. It also highlights the challenges of parents to balance priorities and the communication gap between parents and children in today’s world; themes that will resonate with many families in present day society.
The best part is that the drama is fast paced. Within span of just two episodes, we are introduced to the two families, the issues they face and also witness a major twist that will serve as the turning point in the drama. Now the makers have us hooked by making us curious as to how each person in the drama arrived at that critical point.
If you want to watch something that is well-directed and scripted, that is relevant in today’s time, that will make you think and ask questions, then add Pinjra to your watchlist.
We are hoping Pinjra will be a changemaker in communicating the right messages to younger audiences and parents.
