Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha drops episode ONE tonight as I write this piece and Wahaj Ali fans ask their favourite star the million dollar question, I decided to ask a few myself!
And what is that question, you ask? Oh well, if you’re a true Wahaj fan, you shouldn’t be asking me that! But wait for it, I’ll tell you in a bit.
Yes Wahaj Ali, Zaviyar Naumaan Ijaz and Hania Aamir come together for a romantic thriller – the topic is unconditional love – intense, dramatic and oh so filmy feels – that’s not me, that’s the teaser talking!

But here it is – the million dollar question, just in case you haven’t guessed it
Will we see you (Saad aka Wahaj’s character in Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha) get the girl in the end? That’s what diehard Wahaj fans are ‘dying’ to know! Aha, quips Wahaj, not about to let the cat out of the bag so soon, coz then why would we unpack the pain of watching 30 plus episodes if he returns loveless?
For that you’ll have to wait and watch – endings are to be watched, not disclosed beforehand!
So, the question everyone is also asking: Is Saad throwing us shades of Hamza in Fitoor?
Not really, responds Wahaj definitively. Once we watch the first few episodes, this audience fear will be eliminated.
But, he tells me, in defence of Saad’s character: “Saad is a Better Guy Than Hamza” He goes on to validate his point, “Hamza needs his beloved to fulfil himself – he needs to possess the person he loves. Saad believes in unconditional Love!”
Aah, the romantic hero strikes again I gather. But this time, he connected his reasoning with an even deeper concept – the concept of creating something beautiful and then, letting it go, allowing it to be owned and treasured by someone else for life. He explains the concept behind the story as director Badar Mehmood and possibly, writer Sidra Seher Imran envisioned it.
“I really loved the concept that an artist creates a painting with so much love and then someone comes along, buys his Art and it becomes his. I’m portraying love and its manifestation in this story, not really an artist. Saad is a sensitive character, he is connected with love. Those who can feel love are in a way, artists too.
Wahaj Ali on Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha
And hence, the concept of not owning what you love, I guess is the theme of Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha? Profound that, I surmise, taking that most stories so far have peddled the version of fanatic heroes who thrive on owning the girl – this one will be different!
And so, I digress as my mind travels to Bikhray Moti where Ahad aka Wahaj Ali never got the girl but he was the all giving hero who gave and gave and gave till his tears dried up. Aaand, since Wahaj promises that every role is a new story, I’m waiting for the ‘fresh’ in this one too! Noo, not Fitoor’s Hamza (the trailer made our minds go there, not me again) but this new drama on the block is promising a new mood Saad – don’t judge a book by its cover, or a drama by its trailer – this message for all those comparing Saad to previous Wahaj characters.
So as fans lament over Saad’s destiny even before the drama begins, I had a few questions of my own to ask, and this is what our hero had to tell us about his latest venture.
What was it like working with Hania and Zaviyaar on the sets?
Wahaj responds, not missing a beat, we shared ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ vibes on the set, the three of us. Hania is so high on life that there wasn’t a dull moment and I’m such a foodie, so it was all about what to order next with Zaviyaar, and then of course, my association with Naumaan Sahab and then working with Zaviyar – his eyes remind me totally of Naumaan Ijaz, so that connection was always there. It feels nostalgic. And Hania is so talented, her recent work speaks for itself, so I really enjoyed the experience.
Plus, I love working with a fresh cast, so it was just great to be on set!

My main reason in fact, for signing this project was director Badar Mehmood. We had been wanting to work together but our dates never aligned. And of course Hania and Zaviyar too, there is a new camaraderie there and then we see interesting arcs when we work together.

Wahaj Ali on Mujhe Pyaar hua Tha
Wahaj credits Saad’s portrayal to the director, in this case, Badar Mehmood whose hands he’s quite comfortable in. Every character is different and we, the actors will go where he steers us, so don’t worry about any other character shades, (not even Ahad, I say to myself), it’s not happening!
On the concept

The cast dynamics
” I am my own best competition” that’s the healthy way to go forward. We all try to uplift each other so the project itself is a quality creation coming out of Pakistan And you can see that our content is improving as the team attitude reflects that in a wholesome sort of way.
Every scene was discussed in detail between us, and how it will impact the final result. So each scene was very well thought out between the entire cast.
And there, Wahaj Ali signs off with his ‘effortless’ philosophy on love!
It’s not hard to portray falling in love. Muhabbat toh buhat common hai aur iska experience toh har kisi ko hota hai. Everyone falls in love. It’s not hard to connect with.
Wahaj Ali on Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha
And that’s it from our romantic hero who disarmingly dismisses that pyaar, mohabbat, love, call it what you will is an effortless emotion onscreen – and that’s probably why he does it with such flair – effortlessly and with great intensity, just like the characters he plays!
Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha is being aired on ARY Digital. It is directed by Badar Mehmood, written by Sidra Seher Imran and produced by Dr. Ali Kazmi and Fahad Mustafa under the banner of Big Bang Entertainment.
