Aap Ki Izzat – The fear of losing an obedient son makes you forget the injustice you’re doing to another woman — Tabish’s mother has chosen to support him, though she could have prevented this whole tragedy.
Tabish’s mother keeps saying “tum biwiyan,” and even to Tabish she says “yeh ghar mein rehne waali aurtain hai” — totally forgetting that she was also, and still is, one of those many aurtain and biwiyan.
The daughter’s attitude toward Beena is a portrayal of the fact that children essay what they see at home. They see no one respecting Beena, so the daughter is also dismissive of her.
But the saddest part was when Beena’s friend told her to overlook Tabish’s interest in another woman, to ignore whatever Tabish was doing — to treat it as zakat or sadqa for the sake of her marriage. Even the people who are supposed to be in a woman’s safe space, and should see things from her perspective, end up asking her to pay for peace with her silence.
