A devastating fire tore through a shopping centre in Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, over the weekend, as rescuers continue to search for dozens still missing. The city’s biggest fire in more than a decade broke out late Saturday at Gul Plaza, a three-storey commercial building housing over 1,200 shops selling a wide range of goods. It took more than 24 hours to fully extinguish the blaze.
By Wednesday, the death toll from the massive fire at Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road had risen to at least 52, while more than 80 people remain missing.
