Audiences have appreciated Haroon Malik from Aik Mohabbat Aur as a character for quite some time now, but once again, he has proved why he’s the flawed green flag fans simply can’t stop adoring.

Aik Mohabbat Aur: Mr. Haroon Malik Has Officially Won Over Audiences This Week!

At the beginning, Haroon had us questioning everything. Was he a narcissist? A red flag? Someone who didn’t really respect boundaries? A man with problematic beliefs? But ever since then, he’s been redeeming himself step by step.

Ahad Raza Mir is doing a fine job portraying a man who’s deeply in love and genuinely trying to win over his wife because he knows Khushbakht Naaz doesn’t truly love him yet. He’s hesitant, unconventional, and that one guy in every family who chooses to go west when everyone else is heading east – and somehow, he still manages to make perfect sense.

Most of the time, Haroon ends up saying exactly what the audience wants to hear. Whether it’s in Maham and Faris’s case, calling out the emotional abuse in front of his parents, or repeatedly reassuring Khushnaaz, oh sorry Khushbakht Naaz, that she made the right decision by choosing him, he’s been breaking the fourth wall lately.

And while the audiences have been very vocal in expressing their thoughts and well-deserved appreciation for how well-written the script is and how both the actors, Maya Ali and Ahad Raza Mir, are delivering moving performances, they couldn’t hold back their thoughts on Mr. Haroon Malik either.

Here’s what X has been saying about him lately!

I love how Haroon is figuring out a space that is more familiar to Khushi. I love the affection, the awkwardness & the absolute respect they have for reach other. AMA, as I have said before is very enjoyable.#aikmohabbataur

4th wall break is really a tough balance to pull off but #aikmohabbataur is doing a very fine job. It's like we are involved in haroon's quest to woo his wife & alsobbeing made aware fears of khushbakht and thinking how to break down her walls. Sad ahad is the best ahad.

Haroon is a micro representation of a shift we are seeing in a section of desi men who want to think & function beyond the typical tropes of marriage & refuse to have the same long standing tunnel vision when it comes to a life partner who will give them happiness.#AikMohabbatAur pic.twitter.com/01ALLvDqDG

#AikMohabbatAur : if you haven’t seen ahad raza mir as haroon yet, you’re missing out on peak fiction. he’s funny, pretty, poetic, and emotionally available — basically everything we never knew we needed in one devastatingly charming package. 🤍 #AhadRazaMir pic.twitter.com/ThNb1otrGB

A note on the character: While it’s great to see positive male characters taking over Pakistani drama screens, one wonders if the creators need to forge a balance between Khushbakht and Haroon – Haroon being the perfect example of a husband who empowers his wife, and Khusbakht, reacting with coldness, distance and even perhaps, rebutting Haroon’s advances beyond reason.

While we love Haroon, men onscreen checking all the boxes, flaunting a pink towel to rubber stamp the green flag messaging is not really relatable, but rather, performative. Do you agree?
