Friday night, the red carpet rolled out in Karachi for Teri Meri Kahaniyan, Pakistan’s first ever anthology movie’s trailer launch.
Set among bright lights, red carpet, stars and flashing cameras we attended the launch awaiting the stars of the night. The anthology is brought to us by SeePrime productions with 3 spectacular stories, 3 visionary directors and 1 cinematic experience. The movie releases on Eid-ul-Azha across cinemas in Pakistan.
Style Statements
What ensued at the launch was a frenzy on the star studded red carpet affair but the stars remained unfazed (no surprises there). Shehryar Munawar showed up in his suave bohemian style with a printed shirt, pants and glasses with a slicked-back hairdo – Style quotient unmatched! Ramsha Khan, resplendent in color, spotted from afar in her bright orange Sanam Chaudri separates with a sky-high slicked back ponytail – a perfect look for summer glam launch nights!
Mehwish Hayat looked glamorous in a red look with her signature fringe and glow makeup. Wahaj Ali showed up the last (reflecting his current star power) in typical Wahaj fashion with a loose dark blue shirt and brown khaki pants. Hira and Mani twinned in their black monochromatic outfits. Following a quick red carpet rendezvous interview session and posing like the pros they are, for multiple cameras, the stars headed for some more interviews and then we were finally seated for the big reveal starting with Vasay Chaudhry’s classic hosting with signature satire and comic style.
SeePrime’s Venture
SeePrime, the biggest short film platform focusing on social, current and women issues has now garnered a name for releasing the first ever anthology in Pakistan. We will also be seeing glimpses of the above in their endeavour with top notch directors and cast. An anthology film is one consisting of several different short films covering different genres, perhaps threaded together by only a single theme, premise or event, thus offering us 3 films unique stories in one ticket. Bang for your buck? You bet!
Delving into the 3 different stories:
1. Jin Mahal – Nabeel Qureshi’s Horror Comedy
The first film in the trailer is Jin Mahal directed by Nabeel Qureshi, starring Hira Mani, Mani & Gul-e-Rana. A horror comedy set in a dingy 70/80 year old house. The trailer did a good job at spooking us at first glance on Gul e Rana’s horror scene. The trailer entails dark suspense scenes that rating high on the fear factor but then one will be hit shortly with a dose of comedy and a musical score that will make you feel shivers down your spine. Initially set out to be a YouTube short film, luck had something else planned and this was the film that set the path for the other 2 movies. This will also be Hira Mani’s silver screen debut, in a parallel universe, Hira imagined her cinema debut to be one on the contrary, where she is running with her hair flying in a sari but nevertheless, she says the film was an honor for her and funnily quipped how director, Nabeel Qureshi was the main jinn in the movie.
We wanted to know how the experience was for star couple Hira and Mani working together on their first film together as a couple so we spoke to the lovebirds at the launch. Well, the couple couldn’t seem to agree between themselves. Mani didn’t hold back and said it’s very difficult for couples to work together because even though having great chemistry offscreen, the chemistry onscreen is different and more of a challenge. While Hira (absolutely still smitten with Mani till date) said: I want Mani around me at all times, even at the shoot I would call Mani 10 times to ask where he is but it was quite interesting. The couple also spoke about how Hira started her dramas with Mani and now her first movie with Mani too, Mani chimed in about how all her firsts have been with him. Hira also added that all her firsts with Mani have been lucky for her and she hopes the same for her movie.
Well, all the best you two, history is on your side for sure!
2. Aik Sau Taeswaan, An Old Age Love Directed By Nadeem Baig
The second movie is Aik Sau Taeswaan directed by Nadeem Baig with the heartthrob of the moment Wahaj Ali’s cinema debut. Wahaj didn’t stop at stealing hearts with his dramas and is now set to steal hearts on the bigger screen. We bet all Wahaj Ali fans are super excited!
The trailer gave us a sneak peek at an old age sort of romance with Wahaj being a love-lorn hero (doing what he does best) and our cinema queen Mehwish in a very desi look and thanks to what seems to bring them together: the book 40 Rules Of Love and a very poetic love story beginning on a train journey. Talking to audiences at the launch, Mehwish said jokingly how for once, it’s refreshing to not be working with Humayun Saeed or Fahad Mustafa. The cast also includes icon Zahid Ahmed alongside popular model and actress Amna Ilyas. In an exclusive with Mehwish, we asked her what makes this project special for her: “everything about the story is beautiful, a lot of people will be able to relate to the story and characters”, she confirmed the movie has an old school feel to it, which she thinks is very unique and we don’t see that in cinemas anymore and on our TV screens, “which will be a breath of fresh air for the people, even was for me”. A question we were compelled to ask was if she is a romantic at heart too? She accepts, she is a terrible romantic at heart but tries to cover it well.
3. Pasoori, A Rom Com Directed By Marina Khan
The 3rd movie is Pasoori which is ace drama director Marina Khan’s cinema debut with actors, Shehryar Munawar and Ramsha Khan. As per the team, it will feature all “mazaydaar ganay” with elaborate wedding songs, aesthetic scenes and the fun chemistry between the two giving you all the rom-com feels. From the looks of it, we will also be seeing some valuable messages for the audiences. At the launch, Marina revealed she was scared throughout and directing this movie was a learning process for her all while doing justice to everybody.
Fun fact: The wedding number song was shot in one day and shot straight for 18 hours! Woah – the dedication!
We will also see Babar Ali with Laila Wasti as Sheryar’s parents. Marina Khan’s inspiration for the movie is her love to watch romance, love to portray it so people feel something and happy endings are closest to her heart. During the panel Ramsha disclaimed how her character is quite different from her real life as she doesn’t like taking risks in life, makes us think what kind of risks is she going to be taking in the movie?
