Taking strides in innovation. Bioniks ventures into Cammie prosthetic.

Cammie, nicknamed by his new carers in Malir, suffered a traumatic experience as she ventured into nearby fields foraging for food – an activity most animals engage in as normal, natural behaviour known to them. However, little did this poor animal know what was in store for her. Hopefully things are looking up now after the horrendous ordeal. The incident sheds light on the dire need to address animal rights in Pakistan.
Here’s What Happened
On June 15, an alarming incident occurred when a landlord allegedly mutilated a camel’s right leg as punishment for grazing on his farmland. The police approached the camel’s owner, who declined to identify the perpetrator or file charges against them, according to police officials. As a result, the police filed an FIR on behalf of the state against six unidentified individuals under Sections 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle) and 34 (common intention) of the PPC.
Actions Taken Against The Incident So Far
However, when the police attempted to arrest the six suspects in Sanghar, the suspects resisted arrest and assaulted the officers. A second FIR was filed by the police, identifying the suspects but the landlord who was the real culprit behind the incident is missing and during the operation, two axes were recovered from the accused, and two of the suspects confessed to the crime. This FIR included charges under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of an offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the PPC.
CDRS Benji Project
The female camel was subsequently transported to CDRS Benji Project the animal shelter in Malir, Karachi. Her new caretakers named her Cammie. The CDRS Benji Project team has been tirelessly caring for and rehabilitating Cammie, working closely with veterinarians from the Livestock Department. Their efforts include providing camel milk and ensuring Cammie receives the best possible care. Efforts are ongoing to provide a prosthetic leg for the injured animal.
Contribution Of Bioniks In Cammie’s Life
Pakistani robotics company Bioniks has stepped in to help restore the injured leg of Cammie, the female camel, by providing her with a prosthetic leg.
A Good news for everyone! Bioniks will be making a one-of-its-kind artificial limb for a camel who recently got amputated. It’s going to be a tough task, but we hope we can help the little camel regain its mobility and independence with the help of our technology.

Bioniks is going the extra mile to support those affected by animal welfare crises! Entering new horizons, we will revolutionize animal welfare through innovative prosthetics. We are passionately working to design a customized prosthesis for an affected camel. During the healing time, we are working on a harness aiming to restore its sense of mobility.

EDITED: A big ? to Shazia Marri & Anny Marri for rescuing the camel before the news even broke on social media and for acting so quickly to care for the camel with Sarah J K & then ensuring the criminals who did this are punished.
The same justice is desperately needed for a poor donkey who was found by an animal rescuer in Islamabad, Anila, whose ears have been cut off just because she was looking for food. We are hopeful that @parcrawalpindi@islamabadpolice#islamabadpolice will help this man & the donkey get justice.
We are coordinating with Anila on trying to bring the donkey to live out her life with us in Karachi. We will send one of our vet & one rescue officer who are experienced in handling such cases to bring her once her conditions stabilizes. But Justice is needed NOW.
The utter disregard for animal rights in our country is both alarming and a cause for an urgent need to raise awareness and empathy for those living amongst us who often form the channel for our livelihood but do not have a voice, are not tended to, respected or looked after the way every living thing on the planet deserves.
