This week Biryani became the most relatable drama for anyone who is in love, falling in love, or has ever fallen in love.

Biryani: Episode 8 and 9 Review

From Nisa fighting with herself about why she is losing control over a guy, confessing to her friend, feeling angry when her crush ignores her, the friend playing cupid, to the ultimate confession—Biryani beautifully portrays the thousand emotions one experiences in love, while also giving us a heartfelt love story between Nisa and Meeran.

The most interesting part of this week’s portrayal of love was how relatable, practical, yet layered it felt. Nisa’s conflict and reactions mirror what many would initially feel, but they also stem from her personality. She is a clear-headed girl, focused on her goals, someone who has probably always judged people who fall in love and has held biases against influential landlords. Now she finds herself behaving irrationally, opposite to how she thought she was. Most importantly, she’s falling for exactly what she detested —Meeran, who symbolizes money, power, and dominance. And now, he has taken over her thoughts completely. At the same time, she knows their relationship is realistically impossible, which only makes her resist more.

The creators have subtly woven in the provocative desire in Nisa’s growing attraction towards Meeran. The brilliance lies in the fact that no explicit dialogue spells it out. Instead, it’s in the subtle details and the emotions the actors portray.

It was a sweet moment when mamoo showed Nisa his collection of jewellery from Kanwal. Nisa’s close bond with her mamoo and her mother was also evident. Despite her differences with her mother, it was touching to see how Nisa came home completely frustrated with Meeran’s attitude—ignoring her and not attending her presentation—and turned to her family.

While love can make people do crazy things, Nisa saving used tissue papers and coffee cups felt a bit over the top, borderline unbelievable. More so, her drinking the mixture her mamoo prepared so she could forget Meeran was far-fetched. Are we really supposed to believe that a sensible girl like Nisa would think love can be erased by some homemade herbal mixture?

And then there’s Gul Mehar. Who is she? Why would she call Meeran “my baby”? That moment felt strange and made us wonder how we’ll feel later if she turns out to be his wife. Because that carried a maternal or a big sisterly kind of vibe. The drama seems to be taking a risky turn here.

Yet Gul Mehar also forces Meeran to reflect on his motives and how he’s treating Nisa, making him realize he needs to speak honestly with her. The best moment was when Meeran told Nisa in the car that he was hurt—that his heart was broken—and that it had nothing to do with his ego.

We finally get a confession from Meeran towards the end, but the question remains: should Nisa be happy, or anxious? Is this really what she wished for? And will she be able to accept Meeran with all his baggage and the world that surrounds him?

I think what Nisha did in resistance to her uncontrollable feelings towards Meeran is justifiable.I know most of the people would find it OTT.But I have seen so many girls doing silly and nonsensical things though they are very strong minded and quite focused girls.Nisha’s taking medicine doesn’t show anything but a firmless belief that there is still something that she can give a try,but underline she knows it’s not gonna work. It’s the same like when you don’t know what to do and you just hold on to whatever you get at the moment. And partly because of Mamu jaan why Nisha did such an action because she got to know Mamu jaan having gone through the same predicament .She might have convinced herself having considered that there must be a way Mamu had got over his lover and if it worked for him somehow then it would also work for her. It’s like when people drink to forget their sorrows and sufferings though they know nothing will change ,still they do it.
From the starting of the 8th episode ,I loved the scene when they were ready to leave and Meeran gradually turned at her and stared at her.It was just so beautiful. And Meeran’s bedroom scene with his shirt. The chemistry is something else.I have seen so many Pak dramas and this feels so real, subtle and intense.Kushal and Ramsha have won me.
