While we wait for this tear’s Cannes to make its fashion moves public, feast your eyes on the most loved looks of these Asian beauties over the years who ruled the Cannes red carpet.

It’s that time of the year again where celebrities, film makers and artists from around the world gather in the French beach town to celebrate films. The Cannes Film festival takes place every year for two weeks in the month of May.
Cannes 2023 is now underway and we can’t wait for more looks that break the internet, ground breaking movies with standing ovations and TBH, more representation! Today, we trace back to some of the finest moments of representation by our favorite South Asian celebrities.
From Mahira Khan, Sarwat Gilani, to Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Deepika Padukone.
Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai’s 2014 Cannes look is truly iconic, she truly looked like a golden goddess with her ethereal strapless golden fishtail gown by Roberto Cavalli. Her auburn hair glamourous in voluminous curls paired with a bright siren red lipstick, a vision to behold. That one look surpasses all her years of Cannes looks. It looked like it was made for her! The glamour was further elevated by the jewels and bling on the dress.
Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor is not called THE fashionista for no reason, a usual at Cannes, she has given us stunning looks throughout the years. But her one look is irreplaceable and ever green, her statement to her fashion forward status. You might be surprised but her ethnic white Anamika Khanna sari with a bejeweled cape was IT for us. Though what set the entire look was her very south Asian nose ring and the make up which amped everything up. Truly like no other.
Deepika Padukone

Deepika’s Cannes look broke the internet. She’s done it all and choosing her best looks was a challenge in itself! So many good looks! But eventually it came down to the one our hearts were set on – The tulle FUCHSIA (no bias there) Ashi studios dress. The vibrant gown incorporated multiple layers of bright pink ruffles and exaggerated sleeves. Her hair in a sleep top knot and all set with a pop of exquisite green drop earrings. It was a true ode to her fearless fashion statements.
Mahira Khan

Fun fact: This was Mahira’s substitute dress after her original choice unfortunately got stuck at customs. But she looked beautiful! She wore a black off the shoulder Alberta Ferretti floor-sweeping gown with diamonds and a classic red lip! She’s a true classic at heart afterall.
Sarwat Gilani

Joyland made waves being the first Pakistani movie to be premiered at Cannes and Sarwat Gilani made sure to get the representation right! She walked the red carpet at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, dressed in a glittery sublime shade of green, she wore a long kameez with a tung pajama and bronze heels. She kept her accessories plain and makeup simple. But she shone through!
Be sure to stay tuned for the best looks of the this year!
