Kamran is punished with 25 years in prison. Inspector Shafiq and Kamran’s domestic help are also dealt with accordingly by the court of law. We not only see many strong female characters, but we also see justice prevail.

Kiran’s character shows how justice over family ties must always be chosen.

The drama gave us exciting court proceedings, making us think deeply about evidence and testimonies. Both Bukhari Sahib and Beenish gave each other a tough time, giving us many entertaining episodes filled with stressful moments.

The final few episodes took the case to social media and TV. While many questioned this — asking why, when all proceedings were carried out in court, did the final blow have to be delivered through a TV show, and why Kiran didn’t send that video directly to the court — the drama probably kept the relevance of social media and television in mind.
Therefore the creators possibly showed a social media trial to ensure that the public at large was made clearly aware about Kamran’s crime. The court ruling could have been questioned or said to be influenced, but once the details were out for everyone, especially the video, there was no room for doubt. This video might not even have been shown to the public, had it become part of the court case.

However one questions that if the drama went through the effort of referencing a real Anti Rape Trial Court, and then taking the story to social media with both the accused and the prosecution appearing on social media without the prior permission of the courts or their respective lawyers, this plot twist confused audiences a bit. Is this even possible and allowed when a case is actively being fought in a court of law? The drama could have shed light on the above to help address the confusion in viewers’ minds. And if it is in fact allowed, then perhaps a voiceover or written text could have clarified the same.

Because if we got the earlier narrative right, then proceedings in an Anti Rape Trial Court cannot be made public so we wonder if the creators intentionally strayed from legalities visavis court rules and took the creative license to show a live debate between a rape survivor and the rapist. One questions if that took away from the narrative itself and made it a mere dramatization of a serious issue or actually add to it by gaining more traction for the cause, even if legal details were overlooked?

The drama also highlights how social media and television have become another world altogether — one where the rules are slightly different and public verdicts are sometimes handed out irrespective of formal legal frameworks.

A big shout-out to the drama for portraying Manisha’s character who stood by what was true and right, even if it meant jeopardizing her marriage. This is something all women need to consider: when women support each other with positivity, no one can defeat them.

A Hindu couple being part of the script and both standing by justice was also a good initiative. In addition unlike many scripts, Case No. 9 gave hope by showing Kiran taking Seher’s side, as it is a situation that is seldom likely to happen. But the drama showed how and why it was important for Kiran to side with Seher.

The final episode managed to keep the pace, with Kamran and the domestic help being caught and Seher meeting everyone who had now changed their views about her.

Ali Rehman’s character as Seher’s husband Ali, was another very positive role, showing that even after divorce, one can still support an ex-wife and stand by her.

We wish the drama had not shown Seher and Kamran fighting on the live broadcast. It did not align with Seher’s character, and the drama seemed to give in to the kind of behaviour often seen on TV shows where participants misbehave with each other. A more dignified response from Seher would have been in keeping with her character.

In the end, a big shout-out to the entire team for highlighting a subject that truly needed to be talked about, for communicating vital and relevant information related to rape cases, and for knocking on the conscience of audiences by asking an important question: who are we as a society?
