Deewangi – The Drama That’s Showing Women In a New Light!
As everyone is in quarantine amid the pandemic and most of the TV channels are airing old serials on repeat telecast, 7th Sky Entertainment continue to deliver fresh content to the audience. It is rare to find quality content on television today especially when the recurrent themes, tragedies, breakups, divorces etc. surround most of the drama scripts.
A drama filled with emotions, love, hatred and twists, Deewangi will make a lasting impression. Produced by Abdullah Kadwani & Asad Qureshi, written by Saima Akhtar and Directed by Zeeshan Ahmed, from the first episode up till now the play and the brilliant cast is constantly winning hearts. Aired on GEO Entertainment, the cast performed brilliantly.
Danish Taimoor as Sultan Durrani, Hiba Bukhari as Nageen, Ali Abbas as Haroon, Zoya Nisar as Narmeen, Nida Mumtaz, Faiza Gillani, Aiza Awan, Humera Bano, Bia Zaidi as Bi Jaan, Parveen Akbar, Mehmood Aslam as Mujaddid Durrani, Noor Ul Hassan as Rashid, and Ali Rizvi as Anwar are the applaud-worthy cast.
Deewangi is a drama with a strong and powerful story line. As it begins, it sketches the difference between elite and middle class as well as highlighting the issues of an ambitious girl Nageen, who is born in a lower middle class family. Danish who played Jaan e Alam in Ab Dekh Khuda Kiya Karta Hai, added another feather to his cap and proved his versatility in Deewangi. Taimoor delivered the very best of himself in the character of Sultan.
Sultan is a rich businessman soon-to-be politician and on the other hand Nageen is a poor girl who lives with her married sister Nuzhat, played by Faiza Gillani. Nageen’s past experiences and an encounter with Sultan Durrani in a bus, where she gets a job as a bus hostess, change her life.
Sultan falls for Nageen and deliberately tries to put a wedding ring on her finger upon which Nageen slaps him for being disrespectful towards her. Thus the situation turns topsy-turvy for Sultan as the incident was recorded and leaked on social media. He faces extreme disgrace and blames Nageen because he thinks she leaked the video. Sultan still waits for Nageen to come to him but this time, for vengeance, for the shame she brought to him. Sultan satisfies his ego by getting her kidnapped on the wedding day that shatter her and put her character to question in the society. The story becomes more interesting as Nageen runs away from her house and meets Haroon, played by Ali Abbas, a journalist who seems to be helping Nageen as the drama progresses,
The drama is well-knit and executed by the director Zeeshan. This is one of the dramas which is not shot inside houses but the director has brilliantly shown three cities, Karachi, Lahore and Hyderabad, utilizing outdoor spaces.
“It was a tough shoot. We shot in summers and winters also. Actors were very cooperative and they did really very well. It’s not a drama that was shot in two houses only; the outside areas were much utilized. I am glad to see the feedback of viewers. The success of the drama reflects the team’s hard work.”
A bad guy always has a friend who keeps correcting him whenever he goes wrong. Fawad, played by Anas Ali Imran, is Sultan’s best friend and keeps warning him to not let his ego damage his life and hurt his family. He is by Sultan’s side till the end yet wants him to improve himself and move ahead with the blessings he has in his life instead of dwelling upon past.
“Sultan has an ego problem which keeps getting worst. I have played his friend’s character named as Fawad. His friend keeps teaching him that don’t do such things which will ruin your image but as the story evolves, Sultan faces the consequences. He doesn’t listen to his friend as well because his ego takes over.”

Hiba Bukhari is a phenomenal actor and this time too she has won hearts as Nageen who learns to stay strong with each passing day. The audience is appreciating the drama more so because of Nageen, whose journey from miserable and helpless to gaining strength is admirable. She doesn’t dwell upon her ill luck but fights it and comes out stronger. In a society where women are seen as corrupt and characterless after their divorce, the drama also sends out a strong message to men like Anwar who harass them and manipulate them like Rashid, played by Zia Ul Hassan.
“It is a very complicated character due to her past experiences and Sultan’s impact. … Nageen will be a good supportive wife and that’s where she will face Sultan Durrani as well. I believe that the audience will consistently be waiting for the next twist the drama will be offering.” Hiba Bukhari.
The portrayal and deliverance of the roles makes Deewangi stand out. Mehmood Aslam who earlier played Mir Shah in Khaani is again a center of attraction in Deewangi due to his commendable performance. As the drama progresses Noor ul Hasan, Fazila Bibi and Ali Rizvi leave a strong mark on their roles and are equally responsible for making the play a success.
While the drama continues to grab audiences, the cast believes that it offers viewers engaging content as there are lots of twists in the Deewangi which will develop the story further.
Deewangi doesn’t revolve around the miseries of a woman but shows a woman’s journey and how she breaks through. It revolves around strong decisions – Nageen fights to survive in a cruel society. Foremost, the drama doesn’t revolve around domestic abuse; a man beating up a woman or a woman weeping in every teaser. We hope that Deewangi doesn’t lose ground and keeps entertaining viewers in coming episodes.
