‘Aur agar hum waapis na ayen to keh dena
hum nai apna aaj un ke qal par qurbaan kardiya‘
Often times, we become so busy with our own lives that we forget to appreciate the people who are working relentlessly for our safety and prosperity.
The 6th of September 1965 holds much significance in the history of Pakistan. It was the day our armed forces proved their strength and bravery to the world. It was the day our defenders showcased that they were ready for any challenges that came their way.
Did you Know? Pakistan’s military contingent is amongst the Top 15 in the world!
Therefore, I can safely state that strength doesn’t always lie in numbers. Strength comes with jazba. It comes with dedication, determination and most importantly, hard work.

So now, let’s talk about a few of our gems who shed blood, sweat and tears for their motherland.
1. Captain Salman Sarwar

Besides passing the Medical Entry Test with flying colors, Capt. Salman decided to join the Pakistan Army. He quite swiftly became known for his alert nature and vigilance. Furthermore, he was awarded for his efforts with 2 Outstanding Rankings and Commendable ACR. Though he was in critical condition himself, Capt. Salman spent his last 90 minutes helping other injured soldiers on the frontline. He did not pay much attention to the three bullets that struck his own chest and was declared shaheed.
2. Major Naeem Ahmad

Major Naeem’s story was such an intriguing one. He joined the military as a non-fighting arm. However, unprecedented events led him to head a battle. Major Naeem proved to be quite a courageous and resilient warrior. After this incident, he was reported missing for a fortnight till a friend happened to spot him at a military hospital. Major Naeem later passed away with tuberculosis, however, his spontaneous skills, intellect and confidence saved Pakistan.
We can never be grateful or thankful enough for our soldiers. It’s definitely not an easy task to leave behind your family knowing that you might not return. It is not easy to shed your own blood for others. It’s close to impossible to somehow prioritize everyone before yourself. So Thank you for your sacrifices. You are our heroes- super-human!

On the other hand, a country’s army doesn’t solely define its success. There’s many different elements that contribute to a nation’s development and military is probably one of the most important aspects. But this should not hinder us from playing OUR role towards a better Pakistan. This Defence Day, make a pledge that you will take upon the responsibilities of a citizen. Contribute in any way you can. Rise in your own respective fields and serve the soil of your ancestors and childhood: Pakistan.
As the universal mantra states,
“United we Stand, Divided we Fall.”
Let’s unite and bring some real tabdeeli. Happy Defence Day. Pakistan Zindabad!
