Are you also excited about Jemima Goldsmith’s new film ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’. Jemima disclosed to the Evening Standard that the movie is loosely based on her time spent in Pakistan … does THAT grab your desi attention?

Call her Khan or call her Goldsmith, she is all set to win hearts in Pakistan (like always).
Jemima Goldsmith is a screenwriter, director, and producer in Hollywood, but her roots often scream desi, and who are we to complain? She is all set to launch her new film ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ Moreover, the movie’s genre is rom-com, unfolding the love life of two inter-cultural childhood best friends. Furthermore, she is collaborating with Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur as the director of this movie.
Meet The Cast

Jemima has chosen a diverse cast for a better understanding of the characters featured in the movie. Therefore, the very prominent star cast includes Lily James, Shahzad Latif, Emma Thompson, Sajal Ali, Shabana Azmi, Rob Bydon, and Asim Chaudhry. Hence, Ms Goldsmith undoubtedly has really got an eye on the best in town for her upcoming project!
A Glimpse Of The Story line!

‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ is a cross-cultural rom-com story about love and marriage. The story is set between London and South Asia. Moreover, two different people from two different cultures and customs fall in love and then get married. But, the ups and downs faced by the couples are what makes everything fun about this film.
The film follows a commitment-phobic English film-maker in her thirties (Lily James) who travels to Lahore to document the arranged marriage of a British Pakistani man but soon finds herself challenging her own views on love. The story might not be a direct narrative, but loosely based on Jemima’s experiences in Pakistan. Safe to say, the fact that she chose to tell the story in romantic comedy form will be a refreshing breather from the British-Pakistani films currently on air that choose to explore fundamentalism, extremism or the life of desis stuck between two worlds in a religio-social time capsule. This, of course, is not to take away credit from some of the work, that has been brilliant in its own way. But nevertheless, there’s so much more to look forward to with Indian & Pakistani actors working alongside each other in times when the two countries are ahem … engaged in a whole lot more than the Arts!
The stories that I choose to explore are always ones that resonate with me on a personal level.
Jemima explains further while speaking to the Evening Standard:
“When I went to Pakistan I probably had the same views as the rest of my friends about the concept of arranged marriage, which is that it is a mad, outdated idea. But I came back after ten years with a slightly different view, whereby I could see some merits to it.
Evening Standard
She revealed that it took her 10 years to write and rewrite the script of ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?‘. It was inspired from her time spent in Pakistan.

Is This Film Going To Be A Big Hit?

Over time many stories, films, and dramas have been made on cross-cultural love stories but each of them offered a unique perspective. Furthermore, Jemima’s take will be an eye-opening experience for the Pakistani audiences who have never really let go of her (and in a good way). This is because, for South Asians, Jemima is a Khan forever – even though she is no longer married to Imran Khan.
