A moderate earthquake struck Karachi on Monday afternoon, sending tremors across the city as residents marked the first day of Eidul Fitr. Though no damage or casualties were reported, the sudden shaking caused widespread panic.

The earthquake tremors were experienced in several parts of Karachi, including Scheme 33, Surjani Town, North Karachi, Sohrab Goth, and nearby localities.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.7 and originated 75 kilometers north of Karachi at a depth of 19 kilometers. Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a slightly lower magnitude of 4.6, with the epicenter 65 kilometers east-southeast of Uthal in Balochistan at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The tremors, which struck at 4:10 pm, prompted many residents to rush out of their homes in alarm. Authorities have reassured the public that no immediate aftershocks are expected and advised people to stay calm.
The last earthquake to hit Karachi before this occurred on June 3, 2024, when a 3.2-magnitude tremor was recorded in areas like Clifton, with its epicenter 15 kilometers northeast of the city at a depth of 22 kilometers. Earlier, on May 2, a 2.3-magnitude quake struck Gadap Town, Kathor, and Malir district, originating 38 kilometers northeast of Malir at a depth of 84 kilometers. Another tremor, measuring 3.2 in magnitude, was felt in Malir on April 24.
