Writers can quite simply be labelled as the representatives of a nation.
Their words can help highlight the many social and political issues that the citizens are experiencing. In essence, stories give a voice to those who have been deemed voiceless. And this freedom of expression is the first solution and step towards a more progressive society. Similarly, when it comes to drama, writing is probably the best way to introduce readers to different perspectives.
It can be agreed upon that Pakistan has some great Drama writers.
We all love Haseena Moin, Anwar Maqsood, Athar Shah Jaidi, Fatima Surayya Bajiya, Ashfaq Ahmed, and the list goes on. Furthermore, these big names have given us the best of their writings to influence various aspects of our society in sensitive and subtle ways.
Drama has become a necessary medium for people to raise awareness and help others differentiate between right and wrong.
In recent times, we’ve seen certain major insensitive incidents take place around us. This makes us wonder whether drama writers are really talking about social issues from a place of real concern or are simply using these grave problems to gain clout? Right now we have many writers who have been a part of our drama industry for so long and one of these gems is Faiza Iftikhar.

Faiza Iftikhar is one of the rare ones who commenced her career by writing for private channels. Her first project aired on HUM TV in 2008 and it was a Ramazan play starring Danish Taimoor and Sanam Baloch. Her ability to incorporate humor with some food for thought is absolutely phenomenal. Some of her dramas that showcase her skills quite effectively include Akbari Asghari, Aunn Zara, Aangan, and Aik Nayee Cindrella.
Did you know…?
Both of Faiza’s sisters are also part of the industry and they too are renowned drama writers. Sadia Akhtar was the author of the hit drama serial Deewangi and Nadia Akhtar penned down Malika e Aaliya.
However, Faiza has the unique ability to do justice not only with comedies, but even serious works of Art. Pinjra, Thakan, Dil Lagi, and Aap Ke Liye are great examples. She continues to give us some great, eye opening and gripping projects:
Ranjha Ranjha Kardi

It’s the story of a Khaak Robe’s (sweeper) daughter who is born in a house much smaller than her dreams. The drama tackles the severity of mental health issues in our society and shows how a woman can overcome any obstacle that comes her way.
Baba Jani

It’s the story of a man who is extraordinarily compassionate. He is therefore, widely labelled as the responsible, sensible and sensitive human being. However, when told to marry a young girl, he marries her ill widowed mother instead to possibly end her suffering. The man then fights against society to save the relationship between him and his step daughter.
Aangan

Told in her amazing comic style, this is an account of a joint family. People can’t live peacefully ‘with’ each other but they can’t live without each other either. It’s a beautiful drama that addresses the dynamics of a joint family system in a lighthearted manner.
If there is any writer who could replace Haseena Moin, I can safely say, it’s Faiza. The first episode to her most anticipated project Prem Gali has just released and we’re already loving it!
