FROM Season 4 Finale Review: I Watched It… and It Left Me With More Questions Than Answers

After everything that happened in the FROM Season 4 finale, I can honestly say one thing: my mind is completely boggled.

FROM Season 4 Finale Review: I Watched It… and It Left Me With More Questions Than Answers

This finale was absolutely wild, but in the best way possible. We had emotional moments, heartbreaking deaths, shocking reveals, and one big cliffhanger that has absolutely altered everything as we enter into Season 5. And yet, even through all of this, I’ve walked away with even more questions than answers.

That said, there were a few moments that really stood out to me – some for all the right reasons, and others because they left me scratching my head.

Jade and Tabitha Were the Emotional Heart of the Finale

Out of everything that happened in this episode, my favorite scene was the conversation between Jade and Tabitha. When Jade looked at her and said, “You know, I’m glad it was you. If I had to spend all those lifetimes with anyone… I’m glad it was you,” I honestly thought it was one of the most beautiful moments the show has ever given us.

After learning that these two have been connected across multiple lifetimes, that line carried so much more weight than it would have otherwise. Jade wasn’t making some grand romantic declaration. Instead, he was acknowledging everything they’ve gone through together. They’ve suffered, searched for answers, failed over and over again, and yet somehow they always seem to find each other. I must admit that I really love how much Jade has grown from season 1. When he first appeared, he was one of those people who believe they are the smartest people in every room and dismiss everybody else’s opinion. Now, he’s become one of the show’s emotional anchors. Watching that transformation over four seasons has been incredibly satisfying, and this scene with Tabitha felt like the perfect payoff.

Fatima’s Transformation Wasn’t Really a Surprise

I know this was supposed to be one of the finale’s biggest reveals, but I have to admit… I saw it coming. But after the finale revealed everything, I must say, I was not surprised. This does not mean that I am criticizing the writing at all.

In fact, I believe that even though the plot twist was predictable, it was used very effectively. It was very sad to see Fatima gradually lose her mind, as she has always been one of the nicest people in this town. Hope personified – this is how I perceived her. And it makes you sad to see how she became one of the creatures everyone fears.

There is one point that really made me puzzled at the end of the episode. I am talking about Fatima’s behavior when Smiley started attacking Marielle. It can be seen throughout the series that Fatima had some kind of control over Smiley, because she managed to prevent him from killing Kenny. Why wasn’t she able to act in the same way during their last encounter? It was Marielle who stood in the way of Smiley and Fatima, giving up her life to save her. Fatima definitely had an opportunity to somehow manipulate Smiley or at least make him stop.

Elgin Went From One of the Most Intriguing Characters to the Biggest Disappointment

When Elgin was introduced into the story, I truly believed he was going to be one of the most pivotal characters of FROM. Something about him seemed different from the beginning as if he was more connected with what was going on in the town. For quite some time, I believed Elgin would turn out to be one of those who would help unravel the mysteries of the town. He was not outspoken like Jade or brave like Boyd, but he appeared to be perceptive and thoughtful enough.

Unfortunately, by the time Season 4 came to an end, all of that potential had completely disappeared. Every single action he took was based on blind faith and not logical reasoning. He continues to listen to visions and voices despite always getting the proof that those were all lies. It was his failure to recognize the truth about what is happening around him and make rational decisions that lead to his sad end. In my opinion, it is a huge waste of the character who started out as a potentially very interesting character and who could have contributed greatly to the plot development of the show.

Clara’s Silence Is Starting to Frustrate Me

Is it just me or do you keep asking the same question in each episode? Why doesn’t Clara tell anyone what she knows? She’s had three whole episodes now to tell people about what she knows which might entirely change their approach to the situation. Clara knows that Sophia is the Man in Yellow. Instead of informing Boyd, Donna, Jade or anyone else, Clara chooses to remain tight lipped. It’s understandable. Who wouldn’t be scared in her position?

But there comes a time when being quiet becomes worse than letting someone know. The longer the episode goes on, the more it feels as though she is choosing to be secretive. Part of me even wonders if there’s something we’re still missing. Maybe the Man in Yellow has more control over her than we realize. Maybe she’s hiding an even bigger secret. Or maybe the writers are deliberately saving her reveal for Season 5. Either way, it’s really frustrating and I really hope to get answers soon.

The Boy in White and the Man in Yellow Felt Like Good vs Evil

The final scene between the Boy in White and the Man in Yellow was visually stunning. With minimal dialogues, the entire show succeeded in showing two polar opposites meeting each other.

The boy in white is always a symbol of hope. The boy always aims at showing something that is right to those around him. However, this involves use of riddles, because he never shows the actual picture. The man in yellow has a way of manipulating people into doing whatever he pleases. This man not only kills physically; he first breaks people’s minds. He makes them feel like they are doing the right thing and then tells them that they have been assisting him.

With all that being said, this is FROM, where I have learned never to trust anybody fully. No matter how many seasons this has gone through, there is no way I believe that the Boy in White is actually on the side of the townspeople. He definitely has more secrets up his sleeves than he lets on.

Season 5 Just Became Even More Exciting

As shocking as some of the deaths and reveals were, the moment that really got my attention was the loss of the talismans. For four seasons now, those rocks were the only source of protection against the creatures for the people of the town. Without the talismans, everything is going back to zero.

That’s a terrifying thought. The lives of the survivors will be on the line once again each night in Season 5.

In all honesty, Ellis has been one of the most disappointing characters in FROM. In four whole seasons, I have not been able to identify a particular moment which would define him. Pretty much everything he has participated in has to do with Fatima – searching for her, being concerned for her, saving her, and so on. Now that Elgin is gone, and Fatima seems to be turning into one of the night creatures, I am quite interested in how the creators will develop Ellis’ character because so far he does not seem to have much going on for himself except that he is Fatima’s husband.
