“My original name is Maham Shahid Khan Jafar Khan Shalwani, which is a really long name,” Mamya shared with a smile. “So, I went with Mamya as a username on Instagram. It was never intended to become an identity, but things changed. I started with Maham, but then my ex-boyfriend hacked my account about nine years ago. I decided to make another one instead of fighting over it. I chose Mamya, inspired by a Japanese geisha performer. Everyone started calling me Mamya, and eventually, it became my stage name.” What started as a simple Instagram handle quickly turned into something much bigger.
Fast forward: Everyone began calling her Mamya, and soon it stuck as her stage name.
Mamya Shared A Childhood Anecdote!
Mamya shared her childhood dreams with us and said: “I wanted to be a cartoonist when I grew up. I even took a degree in it. I wanted to become an animator, but I would have to leave everything else in the world and just sit in front of a computer. I didn’t enjoy doing that. Actually, I did a lot of acting with my siblings in my childhood. We would make our own story and reenact it. And we would have our own awards at our home.”

Without wasting time, she took the impulsive step of proposing to her now-husband, they were friends for many years, even before she approached him to discuss marriage plans. Surprisingly, he was taken aback by her seriousness but agreed to proceed. The next day, it was all fixed!
Within a whirlwind 10 days, Mamya’s sister, visiting from Denmark, also encouraged the quick decision. With everyone’s support, they swiftly organized a simple mosque wedding, followed by a celebratory dinner. The newlyweds then embarked on a memorable journey to Fairy Meadows, where they enjoyed a picturesque reception amidst nature’s beauty.

She dislikes the glamorization of possessiveness in media, which perpetuates unhealthy relationships. “Sometimes,” she reflects, “the hero in a film will declare, You are mine and I am yours.” Mamya advocated for moving away from such toxic portrayals and calls for more balanced and respectful depictions of love and partnership.
