So just recently, we were greeted with a fun and more importantly, quite interesting Twitter trend. The “trending trend” erupting this morning on the social was “13 movies to get to know me” Users on the app listed down their list of 13 movies that described them best or they resonated most with. So here’s what we thought. why not let you, our readers, get to know us better? The team behind the workings of FUCHSIA – we have it all, Bollywood junkies, Marvel maniacs, old-school classic lovers, musical fans, and the ever-pink chick flicks!
This list is a culmination of what the FUCHSIA team is made of, FUCHSIA and its members’ tastes, offering a peak into our personalities, so if you want a whole bunch of a diverse mix, here you go!
1. Jab We Met
Heartbroken businessman Aditya gets on a train to escape his depressing life only to find himself pulled into bubbly Geet’s quite crazy one. Starring Shahid and Kareena Kapoor, it’s directed by Imtiaz Ali.
Jab We Met is a movie we all know and love of course but two of our team members had it in their top favs! Dania, a through and through Bollywood junkie, and the once-in-a-blue moon Bollywood watcher, Sehaam both stan the film. These two team members are true rom-com fans for sure. They clearly love the drama and adventure. Jab We Met’s eccentric Geet is their favorite part, which makes sense because who doesn’t love Geet?! We also have some Aditya fans, but we all agree they are better together. We asked a team member why they think so and here’s the response: “They both healed each other.” So true!
2. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Starring Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan, and Abhay Deol, directed by Zoya Akhtar. The movie follows a set of friends with one of them set to be married, three friends go on a bachelor trip and end up finding themselves and the meaning of life.
The two adventurers in our Team, Saad and Dania shared being adventure junkies, their top recommendation being Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. If you ever feel unmotivated, this is where you go to get inspired. It reminds them to live their lives to the fullest. It’s powerful and moving. There are two sides here at FUCHSIA – One of us turns to this movie for inspiration, while another for comfort. Clearly, there’s something for everyone.
3. Rockstar
Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri, Rockstar follows a young college student who, in search of musical inspiration through heartbreak, leads to inevitable self-destruction. The rockstar masterpiece is directed by Imtiaz Ali!
We have just one fan for this one, who claims it takes one through an authentic and emotional journey of a young ambitious musician in a way that’s inspiring. It also carries a great soundtrack and of course, the romance aspect. The story is moving and remarkably portrayed. Could it really be an underrated gem?
4. La La Land
Starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, La La Land follows the story of pianist Sebastian and actress Mia, who find themselves at a crossroads between their careers and love. The romance musical is directed by Damien Chazelle.
Clearly, we at FUCHSIA are big music fans, especially in terms of romance. But the reason Munsub loves this movie is the way it portrays the romance in a realistic way. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows and we appreciate the realness! This recommendation comes from someone who always keeps it real and brings the dreamers down to earth. Munsub at Team FUCHSIA especially added this to our list being a music and romance fan both.
5. Hera Pheri
Two tenants and their landlord hatch a scheme to claim a random ransom for themselves as they are in dire need of money. Stars Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and the ICONIC Paresh Rawal.
If there was a team member who would be most likely to shine in an OG Bollywood comedy, it would be Usvah. She is all things satire, comic, and clever humor. From someone who loves keeping things light-hearted and fun, Hera Pheri is the “best comedy.” The movie is chock full of nostalgia takes us all back to our school days, and has one of the most iconic trios of Bollywood. “Masti Mazak and fun. It’s so chill and laidback,” is the best way to summarise the vibes the whole series gives off.
6. Welcome
Two thugs attempt to set their sister up with gentleman Rajiv but comedy ensues when Rajiv’s uncle rejects the match. Stars Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Akshay Kumar, and just might be all of our favorites!
“Hera Pheri and Welcome are my languages”.This is definitely true. Only such avid watchers of both movies can recall the phrases used in them. At this point, it’s part of everyone’s vocabulary. And of course, it’s another comedy. We love keeping it chill and lighthearted. A true Bollywood humor lover.
7. Batman: The Dark Knight
Starring THE Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, Dark Knight is the entrance of the psychopathic villain Joker who offers to kill Batman, directed by Hollywood’s best Christopher Nolan.
Our Graphic lead is a true Marvel addict, he has seen all the released, and un-released cuts you could imagine. He remembers all the characters and their superpowers and doesn’t miss a chance to add his superhero references to all his work. Our lead graphic designer emphasized his only favorite Batman is the Christian Bale one. This makes total sense considering his role as Batman was very memorable. It’s definitely a movie for all creatives, especially at FUCHSIA where we have a superhero lover.
8. Guardians of the Galaxy
A star-studded cast of Karen Gillan, James Gunn, Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, and more. The story follows Peter who escapes from Morag with an orb. It’s also the reason Roran is chasing him. He forms a group of heroes to fight Ronan. Directed by James Gunn.
Second to Batman is Guardians of the Galaxy for our Graphic lead, because we don’t discriminate when it comes to DC or Marvel. Cool superhero characters in general are our cup of tea, so seeing multiple bands together in space?! Love it.
9. Twilight
Starring the man of our dreams Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, it follows the story of young Bella who moves to the rundown town of Forks, Washington to live with her father. Her lowkey life takes a turn when she meets the mysterious Edward and discovers his secrets.
Of course, Twilight is a long series and we love all the movies but which is our favourite? This was a point of conflict. One of us likes the original, “Nothing can beat it” while another favours the third movie Eclipse “It’s the height of the Bella/Edward/Jacob love triangle. So much drama”. You thought Rabia Mughni only liked Bollywood romance and some more romance? Wait, she also likes Vampire romance! Among her other favourites include: The Intern, Hunger Games, DDLJ and many, many, many more which we couldn’t add to our list. Turns out even Sehaam is a Twilight fan. Did you know Twilight has such a considerable fan base?
It’s definitely hard to choose but both are on our comfort movie list for sure! They are packed with all the best parts of romance, drama, and fantasy.
10. Before Sunrise
Starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, the storyline follows an American tourist Jesse meets a French woman, Celine on a train in Europe and decides to spend his last few hours there with her. Directed by Richard Linklater.
Some of us here love the oldies, especially the romances. Huzaifa loves combining romance and adventure, so for him, the movie is a total binge-worthy 90’s classic. “It’s the dialogue between the characters that pull you in”. There is definite chemistry, It’s like a vacation in a movie. The perfect escape.
11. Barbie
Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans. Directed by Greta Gerwig starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie.
Apparently, not all of us favor the oldies. Our Barbie review was 100% genuine. “It’s more than just pink. It’s a look into how the world and society is and how it could be if it was more matriarchal. It challenges your outlook.” A modern approach for sure. We’re also big fans of the soundtrack. It’s been on repeat since the release.
12. Legally Blonde
THE chick flick stars Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Coolidge, and Luke Wilson. directed by Robert Luketic. Elle Woods goes to Harvard in pursuit of her ex but instead ends up on a path of self-discovery. It’s after all only the most prominent chick flicks in history! Buraera considers this her all-time favorite watch.
“It’s sprinkled with self-love, glamor, and pink.” Not only that, it’s so inspiring, and another comfort watch, a classic chick flick that not only takes us to the land of pinks, sororities, and the oh-so-cool college life, but we also love the 2000s vibes and Reese Witherspoon’s peak era. It breaks all stereotypes and that is what’s so inspiring about it.
13. Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot and Chris Pine star in the woman-centric superhero DC movie, directed by Patty Jenkins. The princess of an all-female Amazonian race rescues a US pilot only to find out Ares, the god of war is about to attack. She faces him to save all of mankind.
Turns out we have more than one superhero fan here at FUCHSIA, but this one’s just a DC girl. The classic Wonder Woman challenges social norms and breaks stereotypes, an inspiration to all the women out there. From the story of a girl from a foreign planet going into the human world and recognizing and building on her powers is just glorious!
