Maria Malik from Ilzaam-e-Ishq is in the house today!

She has been working in the industry for quite some time now. Bichoo, Fitna, Shikwa, and Dil Hi Tou Hai are just a few of her notable dramas. We’re excited to have her here to share a bit about her journey and thoughts with us. Keep scrolling!
How Ilzaam-e-Ishq Came Her Way
Maria shared that Ilzaam-e-Ishq came to her around February, at a time when she was already busy shooting for Shikwa. The story immediately struck her as very different from the other projects she had done, and that’s what convinced her to take it on. She felt she hadn’t explored such a character before, so the script excited her enough to say yes.
While talking about her process, Maria explained that once she steps onto the set in the morning, she leaves Maria behind and fully immerses herself in the character. She doesn’t overthink or rehearse her emotions too much, whatever comes in front of the camera, comes naturally to her.
The Challenges & Surprises Of Entering The Industry
Maria shared that when she entered the industry about three years ago, she had a clear vision, she wanted to work as a lead. But in the beginning, production houses would only offer her supporting roles. When she refused those roles, many found it surprising and even reacted strangely, wondering why a newcomer who hadn’t done much yet was saying no to such offers.
She admitted it was a little discouraging at first, especially because she knew she was capable but wasn’t being given that chance or appreciation early on. Interestingly, some of those very same production houses later came back to her with lead roles.
Maria also opened up about how hardworking actors in the 7 and 9 pm slots are, those who perform in daily soaps or serials, but often go underappreciated. She feels their efforts aren’t reviewed or acknowledged enough, and unless a show becomes a massive hit, the actors don’t get recognition or nominations. According to her, more reviews and appreciation should go to these actors too, because that feedback is what helps them see how far they’ve come and how much further they can go.
Maria’s Thoughts On Love
When asked about love, Maria shared that the way it is shown in movies and dramas is different from reality. In real life, love feels very different, and for her, being a practical person, that practicality matters a lot in relationships.
She added that when she thinks about love, the first word that comes to her mind is peace. Whether it’s for men or women, she believes love should bring a sense of calm. In today’s world, with constant pressures of work, money, household responsibilities, even little frustrations like traffic or bills, life is already stressful enough. If, on top of that, conversations with your partner also turn into fights, it becomes overwhelming. That’s why, for Maria, the true essence of love lies in finding peace with the person you’re with.
On Women’s Safety In The Industry
Talking about women’s safety in the industry, Maria shared that while some places are safe, others may not be. She hasn’t personally faced anything negative so far, but she acknowledges that not everyone’s experience is the same. With social media being so strong these days, she feels people have become more cautious, knowing that wrong actions can be called out.
Maria emphasized that she has been fortunate to work with good people and professional production houses, and she considers herself an example of that. In her view, if you focus on your craft, stay patient, and build your path with determination, things do fall into place without having to go through such struggles. At the same time, she expressed empathy for those who have had bad experiences, while also admitting that she doesn’t see an easy solution to completely stop such issues.
