Ishq Murshid – So, Shahmeer is ready to become “Ghareeb ka Beta” in order to win Shibra’s heart. But Shahmeer sahib if you couldn’t survive one local bus ride, to mohabbat mein agay kay imthihan kaisay dein gay aap? More importantly how will we survive the preachy lectures of Shibra? Ishq ab tuk andha hota tha, ab behra bhi ho jaaye.

Bilala Abbas Khan’s New Avatar
It is refreshing to see Bilal Abbas Khan in an entirely different avatar from his past projects. His portrayal of Shahmeer shows he might be crazy about Shibra and willing to do some foolish and funny acts, but when it comes to issues like his mother or party politics, he is not letting anyone fool him. Looks like we will be treated to a love story where Shahmeer is willing to go to any extent to get his heart’s desire and not just that, we will also be treated to some lighthearted moments.
Shahmeer is not willing to forgive his father for what he did to his mother. The sinister background music accompanying Omair Rana’s (Shahmeer’s father’s) appearance on screen, shows us there is more to his silent demeanor and even though he was a bit hesitant in talking to Shahmeer, we must not underestimate him.
Light Moments
Noor Ul Hassan failing fry an egg on a Saturday morning to provide relief to his wife was a cute scene that made us smile. The scene where Shibra relates how she threatened Maleeha’s fiancé was executed creatively – a reminder that Farooq Rind has a keen eye and penchant for doing things differently. However the edit could have been better, ensuring a smooth viewing experience. Also, unfortunately, the script once more, made light of a questionable situation here – why would a person engaged to be married, date another girl? You tell us.
Shibra Being Preachy
Our disappointment continues as even in the second episode, Shibra’s preachy speeches were in full swing. The conversations were not only condescending and self-righteous, but also lacked genuine concern and honesty. They were unfair to Shibra’s character. All this could have been underplayed so that we could have also felt for Shibra.
Our questions
Why do dramas try so hard to portray a particular personality trait (beating it to death), especially a character being honest, charitable or principled.
If forced comedy and illogical scenes had a face, it would be Shahmeer coming to his friend’s room on the wedding night. How come no one in the team questioned the existence of other family members in the house? How no one stopped Shahmeer from disturbing the couple on their wedding night?
Wedding scenes need to appear believable, hence, please make sure we see a full house. A scattered crowd in a full-scale wedding seems unreal. If the makers want us to connect with the characters and story, then please make it relatable.
In the era of Instagram and Facebook, are people really stalking others on buses and streets? And even if we accept this behavior, what was the purpose of showing it anyway? Can we really not come up with better comic and romantic situations? Or can we not enact comedy without being irresponsible?
Last time it felt like Shahmeer was seeking his lost soul as he roamed public spaces, rode a bicycle and napped on a bench. He seemed to be connected with the common man… hence it seemed really strange listening to him sing this question: ‘Yeh Ghareeb log bus per kaisay travel kertay hain”? Maybe the dialogue could have been structured better to show empathy. What happened to Maleeha? Is she really Shibra’s friend? Making her husband’s friend listen to their conversation is not only invasion of privacy but also breaking the most important bond in a friendship … which is trust!
Looks like the creators missed the fact that the Ishq Murshid also had other characters in the cast who should be well presented, whose make up and appearance also needs to be curated – not just Shibra and Shahmeer.
In Conclusion
So now the story has screamed out loud and clear that Shibra will not marry a wealthy man (who has acquired his wealth through unfair means), taking a judgement call on every rich person out there, let’s see how love will make her change her mind? Maybe that is why it is said “Baray bol nahin bolnay chahiyain”… as Shahmeer will not give up without winning her.
