Is Aleezay in Jaisay Aapki Marzi really the epitome of the real working woman in today’s age and time? Or has she missed the memo….

Jaisay Aapki Marzi: Did Aleezay Miss The ‘Real Working Woman’ Memo?

Jaisay Aapki Marzi continues to take us along the deviously manipulative and toxic path of Sherry as he makes Alizeh suffer, blinds her parents to his reality and conceals his past. The sudden flips in his personality, the challenges for Aleezay and her parents’ concern keep us curious, sometimes questioning certain conversations, yet Sherry’s schemes are sure amping up. One thing we are actually glad about is how our dramas are progressing to depict female leads in various and diverse professions, something beyond the usual choice of them being school teachers, however…they aren’t seeming to get the narrative just right.

Yes we understand Aleezay is a victim of emotional manipulation and is struggling to be taken seriously as a career oriented, working girl, but there are some basic dos, etiquettes, a general practice you learn through life and college life. Despite being such an educated, level headed, ambitious professional Aleezeh, how are you getting them wrong?

1. Expecting Sherry To Wake Her Up Instead Of Setting An Alarm Like Functioning Adults

Oh she passed out on the sofa, no worries – happens to the best of us but you did seem to get up, change and get into bed so setting an alarm would only be the natural next step. Right? Okay you were beyond exhausted and that slipped your mind. You wake up, realize you didn’t wake up or rather your husband didn’t wake you up. Yes, we all know Sherry just needed an excuse to make things worse for you, but you calling him and rambling, blaming him for causing you pain was a bit much and unnecessary in that moment.

Instead, get ready and step out for work rather than calling your boss with a non excuse!

2. Forgetting All Logic & Professional Talk

The next logical step for most in her position? Either text or email excusing yourself for being late and then go in to work, but what happened next had us confused. No, Aleezay frantically calls her boss, asks him cluelessly if she should come to the office? We mean, of course, unless you don’t want to keep your job? You write an email of excuse, a reasoning and go in and get on with the day’s work. She can’t really be giving Ted talks and being this lost when missing half day from work? Hmm, or does being married make you forget to follow your work-life routine?

Sure, she could be having a bad day but even interns know they can’t just barge into their boss’s office without knocking. But she did and got told off. Did Aleezay not anticipate this?

3. Over Committing To Impress

What’s the lesson of never over committing and under delivering? Yeah she failed to get the memo. If she knows she has a lot on her plate already and Natasha was offering help, should she not have just taken it? Because mistakenly, she did forget her father-in-law’s medicine after saying she is good to handle it.

Although Aleezeh has a lot to deal with, what with her parents’ fragile state of mind and her husband flipping sides every waking moment, we would like to see her former spark, the before marriage phase where she did seem to have it together, at least for a bit. Seems the character did a switch and we weren’t in on the secret.

Plus, the character is sort of, damaging working girl goals, don’t you think so? The pressure is real for many Aleezeh’s amidst us who are expected to juggle a near perfect household after marriage and a job, but we would love to see a shadow of her former self emerge post marriage, at least at work. Why has she lost every ounce of the formidable, competent persona we witnessed earlier? Unfair to the character? You bet!

4. Though The Drama Captures The Sad Reality Well

We have to admit, what Jaisay Aapki Marzi did get right was how Aleezeh’s toxic husband doesn’t take her job seriously and just finds ways to rob her off her independence. Although many girls may be working 9 to 6 jobs successfully pre marriage, they often have no support once they are married. Many girls in Aleezay’s position might even give up their jobs for the sake of matrimonial harmony. The drama captures the sad reality of our society, seen in many homes – no matter what, most of the time, the woman in the marriage who is a working professional, is expected to manage her married life, her work and family seamlessly. Most responsibilities at home become hers, the load is barely ever shared.

Despite hailing from an affluent family, (same is the case for Aleezay), the combination of work pressure, a toxic, unstable married life and the now fragile conditions of her parents are bringing her to the point where she is struggling to maintain balance and control at the workplace.

And like we said, although we appreciate her challenges, a slightly more balanced character portrayal might have made it more relatable for many working girls who face the same challenges as Aleezeh post marriage.

What did you think about Aleezay’s office troubles? Do you think the situation was unavoidable or she might have been able to manage it better?
