Heavy rainstorms lashed Karachi on Thursday 27th August’2020. The city went under, literally – breaking rain records of 89 years according to the meteorological officials. the heavy disastrous rain killed dozens and damaged properties of thousands, depriving them of all basic necessities.

Communication services collapsed as the city drowned in water!
To say that the torrential rain caused heavy damage and upset daily life for everyone is an understatement. Heavy rainfall severely affected the internet and cellular services in various areas of Karachi. Services in Karachi suspended due to heavy infrastructural damage due to the thunderstorm. The power supply was one of the main services that was affected. Disruptions in landlines and mobile network internet services, hindered communications. It deprived citizens from reaching out to their friends and families.

City of lights turned into City of darkness!
The disastrous rain impacted the power supply of the entire city. Karachi plunged into darkness. The electricity supply remained disconnected in many areas for over 48 hours.
Citizens forced to abandon their homes in heavy rain!
Urban flooding took over the entire Karachi. Homes of thousands were under water causing damage to infrastructures and vehicles. The sewage lines overflowed and water seeped inside homes. This also deprived citizens from clean water consumption. The entire city is under stress and sadness as thousands have to bear a heavy cost of mental and physical trauma caused by rain and flooding.

The heavy rainfall made Pakistan Army, rangers and police intervened, conducting rescue operations in entire City. Many NGO’s and local citizens opened gates of their homes, restaurants and institutes to welcome citizens who were stuck in rain. The disastrous rain proved the entire Nation of the humanity and brotherhood Karachites posses for locals.
