Kuch Ankahi is handing out smiles, laughter, family moments, and dialogues to ponder over every week. And this week was no different.

The conversations in the latest Kuch Ankahi episode ranged from humorous to thought-provoking, adding a blend of heartfelt emotions as usual, and an endearing flavor of its own to every episode.
Sometimes, our stories teach us not to say or act or think in a certain way by doing just that, in order to reflect the dominating mindset in the society. By doing what is blatantly erroneous, they serve to caution us. Samiya’s mom and Samiya seem to be the mouthpiece and warning signals here. Her mom, in pretending all will be well after marriage, but deep inside herself, knowing that she is sentencing her daughter to a loveless, challenging marriage, yet hoping against hope for a miracle, is sending out messages one conversation at a time.
Here are 4 conversations that sent out messages in humor or all seriousness, in saying what we shouldn’t say and sometimes, exactly what we should!
1. The Episode Kicked Off With A Loving Conversation Between Samiya & Her Mom.
This conversation echoed every word many young girls have listened to, and many mothers have spoken in all sincerity, and perhaps, in silent desperation too.
Samiya’s mom cautions her:
“Shuruh shuruh mein mushkilen toh hoti hain, sab larkion ko hoti hain.”
In the beginning, it’s tough. If you rolled your eyes at that one, you were meant to. But many nodded along with it too.
Because how many times have young girls heard this statement before marriage? You have to live the hard truths before you can get to the good part in a marriage. We’ve heard it so often that we are conditioned to believe it’s true, like a marriage rule book to eat, swallow and digest just like an obedient young Samiya.
She goes on to say:
“Samajhdari aur sabar sab mushkilat koh kam kar deta hai.”
Wisdom and patience make every challenge easier.
Oh, my heart and Samiya’s mom really and truly believed it to be true, but her eyes spoke a different story. She was scared for her daughter’s future, but she said she had no other option. Her advice was directed perhaps, to put her own fears to rest rather than Samiya’s.
Irsa Ghazal played this one so aptly when she said, you can change him gradually, he is a simpleton after all!
“Saif ur Rehman saada larka hai … mujhe yaqeen hai keh tumhara husn e salook usko badal dega”
Mothers have been through the grind in their own marriages but if there’s one thing our society doesn’t let go of, it is, the unfailing hope that a person can change after marriage.
Yet, despite the cliched dialogue, the conversation was played out with so much heart and greyness that we sympathized with the characters and really wanted to believe that yes, Saif ur Rehman would change for Samiya!
Oh, we feel the pressure on a young woman when Samiya’s mom goes on to say:
“Tum to waise bhi meri aulaad mein sab se zyada samjhdaar ho. Mujhe yaqeen hai tum kabhi bhi mera sar nahi jhukao gi” You are the wisest amongst my offspring. I trust you will never let me down.
“Us ghar jao gi toh wahan jaake is ghar ki koi baat na karna aur jab khair se yahan aao gi, toh is ghar mein apne susraal ki koi baat na karna”
Do not repeat anything you hear in your new home and vice versa.
Does this mean a girl should never complain, or confide in her family if she is worried, or unsure about her new life? Or that she shouldn’t complain or indulge in loose talk about the other. Perhaps it would have been good if Samiya’s mother clarified her advice, we wouldn’t want to see any young girl slide into a world of self-sacrificial silence, especially knowing Samiya’s sacrificial mode.
Nevertheless, Mira Sethi and Irsa Ghazal portrayed excellent chemistry here and the conversation made us think, which is was meant to do.
2. And Then There Was The Light Mode On When Saif’s Mom Listed The Wedding Menu Complete With Budget:
“Cold drink har ek ko ek deni hai. Bachon waali maan ko toh deni hi ek hai, aadhi khud peeyen, aadhi bache ko”
Each guest should get one cold drink, especially moms of young kids, they can share half each!
Every conversation doesn’t have to carry a message. Sometimes, it just mirrors people we know, conversations we’ve heard, and moments that make us nod our heads and smile, yeah! We’ve heard that one before. This was one of them. Asma Abbas and Ali Safina were hitting it out of the park and this was a laugh-out moment that had to be noted in last night’s episode.
3. Shagufta & Her Dad’s Conversation Might Have Been Fleeting But Don’t Miss The Messages There Too:
“Aba woh gadha nahi hai. … aap use sirf beizzat karte rehte hain. Usme obedience hai. Jo doosre mardon mein nahi hoti.”
Dad, he’s not a donkey. You keep on after him. He is obedient, a quality that is missing in other men.
To which the father responds:
“Aise mard doosron ki hifaazat nahi kar sakte”
Such men cannot look after anyone. Shagufta continued defending Saif before her father which was a welcome relief and made us feel that she does really care for him. It also brought out a more sensitive side to her personality and a reminder to all viewers that just because a woman takes the lead in a relationship, and appears self-confident and sure of herself, does not mean she doesn’t care about the man in her life. She just knows what she wants. Don’t fear her, respect her and accept her for owning up to who she is!
4. Shakeel Aka Adnan Samad’s Entry Was A Welcome Game Changer.
He played with the silently threatening yet comical mode as a champion juggler, making us first wonder if he is a real threat to the family and then, as his bravado crumbled into mere face-saving and the band of women before him challenged his superficial manliness, we laughed, yet again! And then Agha Jaan served to quell any hope of alpha male goals Shakeel might have.
“Kisne kaha ke mein akela hoon. Meri ek beti tuj jaise 10 larkon ke baraabar hai”
Who said I’m alone? One daughter of mine is equivalent to 10 men like you!
This dialogue was just fab, especially coming from a father of 3 daughters! What every daughter wants to hear from her father, or, correction, what every Aaliya definitely wants to hear! Whatever reservations or insecurities Agha Jaan might have deep inside himself for not having a son, he stands up to the world and proudly pronounces his trust and confidence in all 3 of them. Not just that, he sides with Tanya on her Taxila adventure too.
Well done there Agha Jaan, we are with you all the way!
