Chai chahiye? Go on, you know what comes next! Haven’t we all grown up singing this classic jingle from Lipton? Well, guess what? It’s back with a modern twist but with the same classic feel and a surprise at the end. Hmm, lajawab?

The iconic jingle from Lipton is back after a decade and we couldn’t have asked for a better surprise this weekend. It has been written, composed, and produced by none other than Bilal Maqsood himself!
For all the Gen Z’s who have no idea what we are talking about, don’t feel left out, we have got you! Here is the original jingle for reference:
Our Thoughts On The Jingle

We love how this time, Lipton and Bilal Maqsood have added a ‘pop’ twist to the jingle to resonate with the younger generation, which might also be the reason why they chose Alycia Dias, an up and coming musician from Karachi, to sing the jingle this time.
The Lipton Peejiye end note adds a quirky, fun beat to the melody, hitting remix notes that the older generation (who has lived through the original one) might find a bit too upbeat, but might just come around to, soon enough!
The pots & pans hitting the notes was an innovative move to bring together kitchen, chai and fun in an advert that aimed to appeal to the young & old generation in just under 2 minutes of screen time – wise move that or too much happening in one frame? Ask the generation who’re still humming to Chai Chahiye, or not?
A smart move from Lipton, to give the old anthem a twist with new antics – though a brave one (old sometimes doesn’t sit in so well with new), and rope in the younger generation who might find the jingle catchy enough to hum the tune like the rest of us!
What We Think About The Video

The video has a modern yet refreshing feel that takes us back to our childhood. Junaid Khan & Madiha add heartwarming morning vibes, so much so, that we’re now hoping to catch them onscreen together!
We spotted the likes of Pakistani actors Javed Sheikh, Junaid Khan, Farhan Ali Agha and Mariam Mirza. Guess who makes a cameo at the end? The maestro Bilal Maqsood himself! We feel like the fangirl in us needed to see this comeback ever since Strings disbanded.
The advert is a throwback to the good times when a cup of chai would bring people together in the most beautiful ways. Whether sitting with a group of friends at a dhaaba or family, sharing precious moments over shaam ki chai, it is the most relaxing time of the day when you can just unwind, forget about work stress and enjoy your loved ones’ company.
Although the video tried to include people from all age groups, we couldn’t help but notice that the average age was considerably younger than past adverts – a conscious attempt to take on the chai drinking youth?
What The Audience Thinks

As expected, people are loving this nostalgic trip down memory lane and Bilal Maqsood’s special appearance was just the cherry on top for his fans!
One tea drinker had this to say:
I don’t usually endorse remakes of vintage pieces from my childhood, but this one has blown me away!! ? Fantastic! ?
However, many pointed out how they were waiting for the iconic “hmm, lajawab” in the new jingle but it was nowhere to be found which they thought was a little disappointing (so did we). Nonetheless, it was a very refreshing take on the old jingle and the audience cannot stop praising it.
Are you missing Laajawab too?
I kept singing “hmm lajawab” at the end of each chorus. That can’t be replaced.
Instagram User
Bilal Maqsood posted this special project on his Instagram account with the caption, “With fingers crossed I present to you ‘Chai Chahiye? Konsi Janab?‘. It was a huge task to compose, write, and produce this iconic jingle and give it a new twist. Brief was simple. Make it popish and relevant. People on my Instagram know that I have a very strong connection with old PTV jingles. So when I was asked to do this it was no less than a dream project. I hope you guys like it!!”
He also gave us a sneak-peak of the project this week on his Instagram which got all of us very excited!
Lipton has a long-standing history of valuing creativity which has always been reflected in their TVCs. If we look at its previous TVCs, each one of them has a unique theme, and it has always cast renowned Pakistani singers and actors like Ali Zafar, Hadiqa Kiani, late Nazia Hasan, Ayeza Khan, Sheheryar Munawar, to name a few! So it is no surprise that they gave it their all to make a comeback with this very landmark marketing campaign.
But, was there a bit too much going on in the advert?
Although we’re loving the beat, we’re wondering if there was too much going on in the advert. In an attempt to add in young, old audiences, celebs and non celebs together in one 2 minute jingle, did the brand attempt to aim for too much or did they hit the right notes?
On the other hand, taking on a vintage beat is always a risky, albeit brave challenge. And Bilal Maqsood seems to have struck a chord here – he has managed to keep the youth grooving, yet keep their grandparents moving to the beat as well.
So will you be humming the jingle all week? We’re up for a cup of chai now … Lekin Kon Si Janaab? That’s the question!
