The Background Story Of Maharaj
The film centers around Karsandas Mulji (played by Junaid Khan), a young man with a questioning mind who challenges societal norms. He grows into a journalist with a strong sense of justice. The story takes a dramatic turn when Karsandas uncovers the misconduct of a revered religious leader named Jadunath Maharaj (JJ), played by Jaideep Ahlawat. JJ is accused of exploiting his female devotees, particularly young girls, under the guise of a religious ritual called “Charan Seva.” Karsandas, after a personal experience, becomes determined to expose JJ’s wrongdoings. The narrative follows Karsandas’s fight to bring the truth to light through journalism. He faces challenges, social pressures, and resistance from JJ’s followers. The film culminates in a courtroom drama, depicting the real-life “Maharaj Libel Case” of 1862 in the Bombay Supreme Court.
