Ayra has walked away from Kamyar and the heartbreak begins. When will Kamyar realize that Faria and Khawar were behind the breakup and why is no one asking who sent the video in the first place? Should Ayra have spoken to Kamyar once before breaking off the relationship, and who will help these two find their way back to each other? Catch Meri Zindagi Hai Tu episodes 17 and 18 review.

Meri Zindagi Hai Tu

Ayra’s father hid Kamyar’s visit to the house from everyone. It was a moving scene when he told Kamyar that it was only because he felt Ayra would feel very hurt if she found out Kamyar had been drunk and came over to the house to see her. He wanted to save the heartbreak for his daughter, an emotion that makes us respect Ayra’s father. Pakistani dramas have often fielded a version of a father who is either too soft, or too strict to find middle ground, but here, Ayra’s father seems to get the fact that although his daughter might be playing with fire, she is old enough to make her own life decisions. Although he might know better as a father, he has to let her live the journey. And yet, he will always be behind her if she needs him. This character will win hearts, we anticipate as the story moves on, with all its drama, tragedy and heartbreak to keep viewers invested, and yet, looking towards Ayra’s father as the anchor in her life – the good sense, reason and heart that keeps Ayra on course.

But despite all his positives, should Ayra’s father not run things by his wife? Why do we have a character who is so enlightened as to guide Ayra and yet, perpetually disregard his wife’s opinion or keep her in the loop? Or is it because Ayra’s mother has been shown to be a mere silent partner, going along with whatever her husband decides for the girls?

Moving on to Kamyar and Ayra’s relationship and the viral video that had everybody shocked just before the nikah cerermony. Although one expected Meri Zindagi Hai Tu to field a dramatic version of events where the nikah would be paused last minute as Faria and Khawar play their toxic game and help flip the plot at the last minute, is it not fair to ask why no one thought it important to investigate who had planted the video in the first place and sent it out to all the wedding invitees with precise timing? Not just that, but Kamyar himself, so heartbroken, will take time to figure that one out. One would think he would be on it instantly. And if not him, at least Ishtiaq or Falak would have thought of the same?

And then there’s Ayra’s decision to walk away from it all. While we cannot undermine the shock value and disappointment of the entire chain of events – Ayra feeling disappointed and betrayed by Kamyar, embarrassed before her family and obviously disturbed by the video, is it not fair to give Kamyar a chance at explaining himself? After all, she knew she wasn’t marrying someone who had been an angel in his past life. Kamyar had admitted to being wayward, lost and erring on multiple occasions and the fact that he told her he didn’t know when the video was shot should have raised the alarm bells for her. Is Kamyar really answerable to Ayra for everything he did before he met her. And of course, in the event that the video was shot later, Kamyar must investigate. Add to that, the possibility of AI and fake videos, one must assume without siding Kamyar needlessly that a sober event such as a wedding needed more than a typical sensational call-off in a matter of minutes. But we guess the plot rules, and tragedy must strike if the creators meant it to. Making it more believable for viewers might have added a notch to the storytelling though.

One must also note Kamyar’s dialogues earlier: “Tum jaisa Kamyar chahti ho mein waisa bun kay rahoonga, Jaisa tum chaho gi waisa hoga,… tum kahogi subha hai, subha hai, sham hai, sham hai.” Do the dialogues seem to play with how young girls are told to become exactly what their husbands want and demand of them? Is this a flipped narrative where Kamyar is trying hard to change for someone he loves? Or, is it okay to change for love when the person makes you a better version of yoruself? Either way, Kamyar has the audiences’ hearts and one wonders if the story was manipulated in a way to make us feel for him?

Kamyar is about to find out soon enough that Faria might have been behind the video and the question now remains whether Ayra and Kamyar can find their way back to each other, and even if they do, will their families allow them to come together once again? Was Ayra’s failure to communicate with Kamyar and instantly call off the wedding the biggest mistake she ever made?

Both Hania Aamir and Bilal Abbas Khan turned out a convincing performance as Ayra and Kamyar’s grief spilled over and the heartbreak felt real. Hania in particular made us feel for Ayra, her heart broken into a million pieces as she tried to gather herself and deal with the reality of shattered dreams, all in a matter of moments. Bilal too, essayed Kamyar’s sense of loss and utter hopelessness in a manner that evoked sympathy from audiences.
