Neem is a drama that doesn’t feel the need to compete with the fast paced, young-feel stories currently hitting our screen. Zimal’s journey is gradually warming up on a slow burn, though we wish the makers felt the pressure to add more in one episode.
Zimal Fighting For A Cause
It is now quite clear that Zimal is our upright, determined ‘fighting for a cause’ heroine who will say the right things at the right time to the right people. From delaying her wedding and telling off her fiancé Shazil, to speaking at the girl’s school, Zimal is invested in her cause. Though we wish her speech had been cut short to show more action and less lecture (just to keep it more engaging for the youth targeted in her talk). Aaj kal ka attention span is all about engagement, remember?
Messaging To Redress A Lifetime Of Wrongs
The story takes a refreshing turn when Zimal’s grandfather plans to hand over the land to those who have lived on it for over 3 generations, but one questions how he can deny the inheritance rights of his sons by virtue of this decision. It would be great if the issue could be addressed in a manner that makes us understand that in our generosity to gift rights to the underprivileged and right previous wrongs, we are not denying those who have rightful claim over the property.
Why Is Karamat So Bitter?
The story needs to shed more light on Karamat’s bitter stance towards Riyasat Khan aka Zimal’s grandfather. Why has he turned out the way he has, despite having such an enlightened person as Riyasat Khan to advise him. It might help explain his behavior.
Karamat’s Marriage Plans
Karamat’s request that he wants to marry Zimal was a shocker and we fear he’s not going to stop just because his father asked him to. Should Zimal’s grandfather not orchestrate her marriage sooner, knowing what is brewing in Karamat’s mind?
Love And Its Many Perils
Ashhad lurking around Zimal’s home was totally uncalled for and we were expecting more sense from him. Despite his simple nature, how can he be so silly as to venture so close and get nearly caught. Love makes us deaf, dumb and blind presumably so that explains it probably.
Meaningful Messaging
The topic of girls’ education is being championed by the drama on many levels and we hope it clicks with many who might think like Karamat. Not allowing his daughter to have a computer when she wants to study Computer Science is how many women are held back from pursuing previously male dominated careers. It is great that the drama is highlighting the issue.
We have high expectations from Neem and we hope the story picks up so that all the causes it sets to highlight are not lost in a slow-paced narrative.
