Unwind this Monsoon season with these new Pakistani dramas brought to you by HUM TV. With star-studded casts and captivating plot twists, you’ll be glued to your screens for hours on end. Here’s our list of three Pakistani dramas you should add to your watch-list:

1) Naqab Zun

Featuring Saboor Aly and Hajra Yamin, Naqab Zun highlights two very important but much-neglected issues in our society. The first is: rape, molestation or other forms of abuse/harassment with girls and boys on weddings, various family functions, and generally big family events. The second is: placing blind trust on male members of the family.

Saboor, who is the middle of three sisters, gets raped on her mehndi night inside the storeroom in her house, where she had gone to look for some jewelry. While the family tries to come to terms with this tragic incident and breaking of her rishta as a consequence, the mystery of who really did it stays unsolved.

The director and writer very cleverly keep making you guess between two possible suspects. Eventually, Saboor joins college and meets Ali Ansari, and here starts a love story between the two.

The drama is intense and realistically portrays the impact and reaction of our society to such an incident. Saboor, along with Hajra Yamin who plays her elder sister delivers a brilliant performance. The love story is a breath of fresh air and the story line keeps you hooked to find out who did it and how the family will react once they realize the truth.

It’s great to see some new faces who have the both looks and talent, that is Ali Abbas who plays Saboor’s bother in law and Ali Ansari. We will not be suprised if Ali Ansari soon takes on crush status among the girls.

So watch Naqab Zun for an interesting and captivating storyline and some light romance. It is a production of the talented Momina Duraid and has been directed by Adeel Siddique.

2) Malal-e-yaar

Azeekah Daniels & Mirza Zain Baig in Malal-e-yaar on Hum Tv (image credits)

A story about feudal lords and how they are still living in caves with their centuries-old traditions. So why should one watch Malal-e-yaar?

Zain and Azeekah belong to a feudal family and are cousins. They are also engaged with each other since they were 5 years old. However, Azeekah’s mom rebels against this engagement and moves away from her feudal husband, taking both her daughters away with her.

Years later on Azeekah and Zain’s paths cross. While Azeekah has become a bold, confident and outspoken female, Zain has followed a totally opposite path of becoming a typically arrogant, angry & entitled son of a feudal lord.

Although this might seem it like a typical story of a strong girl rebelling against her feudal family, the story goes deeper with Zain and Azeekah falling in love with each other eventually, despite being polat opposites in nature. What will this mean for the entire family and the years’ old traditions, will Azeekah’s love change the way Zain thinks?

Azeekah and Zain both have turned into mature actors and have improved majorly from their initial days. They have finally taken on lead roles to now be allowed to display a wide range of acting skills. This will be a drama that will either give us another hit joree or a drama that will lose itself in the many other dramas now airing on TV.

We are loving the drama so far and can’t wait to see what happens next. The drama also casts Firdous Jamal’s son, Hamza Firdous, who is the present love interest of Azeekah. However, sadly, it’s difficult to take him seriously in this role after his character in Rangreza.

Bear with the initial few episodes and you won’t be able to stop watching after that.  It’s written by Hina Huma Nafees, and directed by Asad Jabbal. You can catch it on HUM TV.

3) Mein Na Janoo

Sanam Jung in Mein Na Janoo on Hum Tv (image credits)

Featuring Sanam Jung, Zahid Ahmed, Affan Waheed, and Komal Aziz Khan, Mein Na Janoo is a very interesting drama. It not only has a stellar cast, that you cannot ignore but also a storyline that keeps you hooked from episode one.

Sanam’s mother is treated worse than a servant in her own house and the mystery of why and what happened will keep you interested in watching this drama.

Adding to this is the fascinating angle of Zahid Ahmed playing Sanam’s blind cousin who used to be an airforce pilot. While the treatment of Sanam and her mom by her Dadi and stepmom irritates you, the above par acting and positive portrayal of a blind person by Zahid really uplift you. It’s so heartwarming to see the Mein na janoo team showing a person with a disability living a full life and we hope this has given a new direction to many.

Back to the story. Both Sanam’s cousins Zahid and Afnan are in love with her, but her mother’s past seems to be the biggest enemy in the path of her happiness. It’s also lovely to see Zahid standing up for Sanam and her mom. While Sanam is more inclined towards Afnan, we wait to see who gets to win her and discover what really happened with her mother.

It’s a drama about family politics and controversies. We are hoping the drama will give us more as it progresses. It is co-produced by Momina Duraid and Adnan Siddiqui under their home banners of MD Productions and Cereal Entertainment.

These Pakistani dramas are definitely bringing something new for the audiences who’re fed up with repetitive storylines. Which one of these Pakistani dramas are you following most avidly? Let us know in the comments down below!
