The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently unveiled the official anthem for the 2023 World Cup, titled ‘Dil Jashn Bole’, featuring Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and composed by Pritam, a prominent Bollywood composer. The anthem’s intent is to symbolize a journey through India on the ‘One Day Express,’ showcasing the passion for cricket and uniting fans globally.

However, despite the ICC’s efforts to create an anthem embodying the excitement and unity of the World Cup, it seems that the reaction from fans on social media has been less enthusiastic. Many fans have criticized the anthem, comparing it unfavorably to previous World Cup anthems, such as “De Ghumake” from the 2011 World Cup, composed by Shankar Mahadevan. Fans express disappointment, suggesting that ‘Dil Jashn Bole’ lacks the desired groovy and engaging qualities and has not effectively resonated with the fan base.
Oh, the ICC anthem, ‘Dil Jashn Bole’, is a feeble attempt at capturing the very essence of excitement an anthem should be bursting with. It’s akin to serving a flat soda at a celebration – it falls short, disappointingly lacking the fizz and vigor that should come with an anthem.
Compare this attempt to the PSL anthem of 2017, brought to life by the energetic vocals of Ali Zafar. Now, that was an anthem! It was a musical firework display, igniting enthusiasm and making cricket lovers dance to its beat. You could feel the pulse of the game, the thumping heart of the fans in every note.
And then we have ‘Dil Jashn Bole’, drowning in a sea of instrumental music, struggling to find its own identity. Where’s the spark, the excitement, the soul that makes you stand up and cheer for your team?
ICC, oh dear ICC, take a page from the PSL 2017 anthem and learn what it means to infuse life into a musical piece dedicated to the beautiful game. It’s about capturing the energy of cricket, the passion of the fans, the rivalry on the field, and the unity of it. ‘Dil Jashn Bole’ misses the mark by a mile, leaving us yearning for the magic that a true anthem should evoke.
And let’s talk visuals, shall we? Ah, the joy of seeing a minuscule Pakistani flag in comparison to the grandiose displays of others. One can’t help but wonder, did the production team have a magnifying glass on set to locate the Pakistani flag? Is this how the number-one-ranked ODI team is acknowledged? A small flag in a grand spectacle?
