A Brooklyn-based Pakistani singer, Arooj Aftab has bagged two Grammy Awards nominations for 2022. The two categories are namely, ‘Best New Artist’ & ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for ‘Mohabbat.’ She is the first Pakistani woman to be nominated in the Best Artist category. As Pakistanis, our hearts are swelling with pride! It is always great to witness Pakistani talent being recognized internationally.
Arooj Aftab’s soulful voice has us in awe. ‘Mohabbat’ gives the song a modern feel yet, doesn’t take away from its original charm. In fact, her lingering vocals made former US President, Barack Obama a fan as well! ‘Mohabbat’ made it to the former premier’s summer playlist of 2021.
“With so many folks getting together with family and friends, thereβs a lot to celebrate this summer. I put together a playlist of some of the songs Iβve been listening to latelyβββitβs a mix of old and new, household names and emerging artists, and a whole lot in between,” wrote Obama on his Instagram account.
