Although Haider and Amal seem to be keeping us engaged, we do want to see the professor & his family get justice. That was the crux of the story, was it not?
Dunk, the story is based on a true life incident that destroyed a family, a man’s reputation and sent shock waves across the nation as we woke up to the reality of false allegations of harassment. While many ‘strong minded’ feminist groups might protest to the ‘whys’ and ‘whats’ of this plot – arguing that one case given so much importance will harm the Me Too movement, the point is, that we are still waiting for the plot to be played out.
Noman Ijaz as Professor Humayun met with an outpouring of sympathy; wrongful allegations, whether against a man, or rape against a woman, can still destroy not one life, but all those attached to him or her. Hence, justice must be handed out, regardless. And that is what the audiences are waiting for.
It is commendable that director Badar Mehmood & writer Mohsin Ali have skilfully managed to continue the narrative of Professor Humayun’s family by giving us glimpses of the after-match suffered by his daughter & wife. Yasra Rizvi & the child star delivered a heart-wrenching performance. We could feel Saira’s pain and felt shattered when Ghana runs to her room on seeing Haider.
But while we appreciate the star performances meted out by both Bilal Abbas & Sana Javed, we want Professor Humayun’s death to be avenged. We want the narrative (impatient as we are) to veer towards a possible reopening of the case, we want Saira to muster up the courage to fight back, we want the onscreen story to avenge the real life story so that we, the audiences are appeased.
THIS will only happen if Haider & Amal’s story moves in a direction that overlaps with the professor’s narrative – so we see a reason for Haider to speak out – redress the wrongs he will, but how, that is the question, and the suspense continues.

Bilal Abbas & Sana Javed who are showing us that they don’t need dialogues or extreme action sequences to create impact with their characters.
Has it hit Haider that by refusing to marry Amal, he has probably taken on the biggest panga of his life? Haider ki bebassi bhi dekhi and we wish he would say something sooner or later because we have a hunch Amal’s going to strike very soon!
