Qarz-e-Jaan proves it is not your typical ‘call for justice’ based drama. Bakhtiyar and Ammar are not to be taken lightly, while Nashwa still has some way to go and learn how to deal with such scheming and conniving criminals. Nashwa somehow represents all of us who want to defy everyone but then also face frustration and helplessness when cornered and given a reality check that the world around us is not that simple and straightforward.
Just when we thought Nashwa will rebel against her paternal family, the game changes, Maheen has taken her case back. Not just that, but Bakhtiyar in a very cleverly planned twist, had cornered Nashwa that if she can prove what Ammar has done, and if he has really done it, then he is with her. But with no case to fight now, what can Nashwa possibly do other than get proven wrong and cautioned that many girls do this for money.
Looks like Nashwa is not only impressed by Burhan but maybe she has also found the friend and ally she might have been seeking all along. Was it really this or is it just that she has been confused and needed professional guidance, hence she told Burhan everything.
Nashwa is a really interesting and relatable character. She is emotional and brave, yet naïve, maybe also a bit in denial. Despite knowing the reality of her family in her heart, she still tells Bakhtiyar and dadi about Ammar which leads to her being slapped by dadi. Maybe that is the reality check she needed. For a change, we have a character that will grow and learn as the story moves forward. Her strength and courage will hopefully be refined into an unbeatable force which is accompanied by wisdom and caution.
Ammar calling up Maheen and telling her not to over react about what happened that night made you disgusted. The drama highlights how our reactions and responses as a society about a girl’s ‘izzat‘ are so restrictive and leave no space for any mistakes. Maheen has been silenced as she is threatened about her videos being leaked and chooses to take the case back. A sad reality is shown here, that after watching those videos, the society will either blame her or her reputation will be at stake, or she will be looked down upon. Despite being the victim, she feels like she has committed a crime.
We are curious though, are these videos of Maheen from that night or were they shot earlier, where Maheen might be in a compromising situation.
The drama continues to hold a conversation about whether Maheen is really telling the truth. Even when Sana tells Nashwa about the videos, Nashwa is skeptical if Maheen took the case back because she was lying, but then Sana counters it. So the narrative is making sure to cover this aspect, differentiating a real case from a fake case.
