Seems like lack of attention and love from his parents while growing up, has created this desperate need in Shabrez to be loved, accepted and valued. Meher’s attention and love calms his tormented soul. But can his intense love be justified? Will we end up with another “Junooni Aashiq” turned hero? Or can we hope for an original story in Rah-e-Junoon?

Making Of An Angry Young Man
The drama shows how Shabrez’s parents were never there for him as he was growing up. Having wealth and all of life’s luxuries cannot compensate for the absence of parental care and attention. Every moment that Shabrez’s parents have not been there for him, is deeply etched in his mind and has left an emotional scar. Appreciating the drama for establishing a backstory for the character’s behaviour swings and not merely portraying an extremely emotional person with behavioural issues.
Young Love
The drama presents an interesting thought: Is disobeying your parents for the sake of love justified? Is being dishonest and going behind their back, okay? As an audience, we feel the moment between Meher and Shabrez when Shabrez asks her to meet outside her house. She steps out without telling her parents. As we fear that she might get caught, we also find ourselves thinking that “maybe she shouldn’t have done this?” Which side were you on?
Old School Mindsets
The father’s demand to get Meher married before Zara seems quite old school and unrelatable since times have changed now, and many younger sisters get married before their older siblings.
Watch Out Meher!
Meher is the classic example of “love blinds you”. We find excessively passionate expression, jealousy and extreme actions as signs of love and care, thinking; “oh that person can do anything for me.” But it doesn’t take too long for this behavior to turn toxic and then what seemed romantic earlier, becomes suffocating later. Shabrez won’t be able to accept anyone sharing Meher’s love or attention with him. But Meher doesn’t seem to realize that right now.
Will we see the ideology that: “through love, one can change a toxic person” proven right or wrong in this story? Can Meher really bring about some balance to Shabrez’s turbulent nature?
We wish the drama had not shown toxicity between sisters. Zara refuses to accept any kind gesture from Meher and doubts all her actions.
