Ranbir Kapoor has finally addressed his toxic partner tag, he says his image is based on his roles, which is not who he is….read on to find out more!

Back in August, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s relationship once again came under the harsh spotlight for Ranbir’s possible toxicity towards his wife. He faced heavy backlash on social media and was called a ‘toxic partner’ by many after Alia Bhatt shared a bit about her personal life. Alia Bhatt appeared on Vogue’s YouTube Channel as a part of their Beauty Secrets segment to show off her own skin routine.
In the video she shared interesting insights regarding her relationship with her husband Ranbir Kapoor, saying “One thing my husband always, I mean when he wasn’t my husband, when he was my boyfriend as well, when we used to go out at night he’s like: wipe that off! Wipe that off! Because he loves the natural color of my lip”. In response, a large segment of Twitter and the global media saw this a sign of a controlling possessive relationship. Fans and audiences alike were up in fury and rage over the small personal detail Alia Bhatt casually shared about her married life in a light hearted way about a look her husband prefers.
Breaking His Silence
In a very recent interview on Zoom, Ranbir Kapoor broke his silence on his toxic tag and the criticism that Alia’s comment received. He welcomed the criticism and negativity, accepting that it is a part of celebrity’s lives and is needed for balance in a star’s life. He said sometimes things that are written about him, opinions made which might not necessarily be true and rather its an image that has been created of him based on his roles.
The actor talked about facing negativity and being called toxic: “Hey, I’m not on social media, so I don’t have the need to deal with it, which is a great thing. But I feel negativity is very important, especially if you are an artist and if you have some work out there, I think both need to exist because then that creates a balance. You know, sometimes a lot of things are written about you as an actor, a lot of opinions are made which are not necessarily true and if you take it for a pinch of salt, because this image of mine, which has been created by the movies or the characters I play or by the media, is something that I don’t own.”
He Says He Is On The Side Of People Fighting For Toxic Masculinity
He continued, “It’s owned by the public, it’s owned by people who like my work or dislike my work and they are allowed to say anything about me as long as they give my work a chance, you know, as long as I can prove to them as an actor and that has always been my focus – to act.”
Talking about being labelled toxic, he said: “Recently, I was reading some article about being toxic and something relating to some statement I made and I understand this. And I am on the side of the people who are fighting for toxic masculinity. If they use me as the face of it, it’s fine because their fight is bigger than just me feeling sad about them having an opinion about what I said. I look at a larger picture.”
Has The Backlash Been Unfair Or He Should Be Held Accountable For His Statements On His Personal Life?
What do you think about Ranbir’s statement? Do you think he is now just passing statements concocted by his PR team to show his support for social causes? Or is the backlash been unnecessary and should we let him be? But since Ranbir himself is such an accomplished star and the husband of another global star Alia Bhatt, everything and anything he says must be at the very least politically correct and carefully thought out.
Is it fair for actors/stars, how we always expect them to have politically correct opinions, be vocal and justify themselves? Perhaps should we just the artist be an artist and not jump to terming him as toxic unless the people in his direct relationships have something to say, if Alia seems okay and happy we should just let it rest. Or he should be held responsible given his star power?
Audiences are divided; some say “They just want to blindly hate on particular things, another said people will just find a reason to hate him.” and some say this statement of his just puts on display his PR training.
