Raqs-e-bismil is taking over our Television screens as the new drama season unfolds. Many have awaited the first few episodes with unbated anticipation as they meet Sarah Khan & Imran Ashraf starring across each other in vastly new & refreshing characters.

Anoushay Abbasi delivered a convincing performance & full marks to Moosa’s mom for a positive character portrayal – Saas aisi bhi hoti hain! 👏🏻
The drama gave a Romeo Juliet – Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak feel at the onset but woah! The story just took off after that, leaving us wanting more! Awaiting more glimpses of Sarah Khan in coming episodes
Move on to the second episode
“Jis Ladki Ka Naam Nahi Maaloom, Pehli Hi Mulaqaat Mein Shaadi Ka Proposal De Dia?”
Moosa & Zohra’s relationship is summed up adequately in Essa’s words.
Sakina is out for revenge. Moosa is lovestruck, Essa is winning our hearts, and strange to say that despite the old school ambiance of the drama, it is threatening to pull us over with an intriguing plot.
Special mention: The very brief appearance of Fariya Hassan as Sitara was very promising – a well delivered dialogue there, hoping to see more of her in coming episodes.
Direction by Wajahat Rauf is hitting high notes & the script by Hashim Nadeem though a tad slow, is giving us enough to keep watching!
Sarah Khan in a yet ‘unseen’ yes, (innuendo intended), role is nailing it. Imran Ashraf as the angry young men caught in a love spell is throwing us an original viewing experience – can he succeed in shedding the Adam cloak? Can we digest the ruthless, slightly uncouth image with the soft spoken one we have just embraced?
Raqs-e-bismil also giving out some heavy social messages visavis parda nasheen, deen, ‘ghairat mand’ men & women and tabedaar children … how the story progresses … that is the question!
Will Moosa will fall in love with a girl who might be the polar opposite of what he really wants, and he might have to overcome his own value system or preconditioned mindset to come to terms with his emotions? Guess we’ll have to keep watching to find out!
