Razia: 5 Reasons The Last Episode Left Us Smiling!

A brilliantly written reality, Express Entertainment’s Razia has proved to be soul-stirring, thought provoking and cleverly enacted. The story hit home. Razia spoke the heart of many women and young girls who might not be fully aware of their rights. Every episode packed with pure entertainment and it’s rather true to life depiction of how we blatantly dismiss the dreams of a young girl and break her spirits in society.

The TV serial is both written and directed by the acclaimed Mohsin Ali. It is produced by Hina Aman and Kamran Afridi and stars Mahira Khan, Momal Sheikh, Mohib Mirza, Parveen Akbar, Kausar Siddiqui, Shaheera Jalil Albasit, Kaleem Ghori, Arman Sami, Kashif Hussain, M.Saqib Rajput, Shahzad Mallick, Akbar Islam, Daniya Kanwal, Samina Nazeer, Abeer Na, Fajr Sheikh, Esha Usman.

Razia’s journey came to an end, this Thursday but our journey to learn from hers has only begun. The limited series leaves you wondering, questioning and reflecting within. Echoing and at the same time, questioning the archaic, amiss, negative conditioning of society. It has challenged society’s conditioning, the hypocrisy and unfair treatment of the female gender. The last episode was bitter-sweet. It was one that left our heart aching but also one that left us feeling relieved, liberated on Razia’s behalf. Hoping many Razia’s and their mothers, brothers, fathers, husbands, around them have been impacted through the hard-hitting story. Audiences are vouching for this masterpiece, appreciating the incredible performances, the storyline and script writer.

Here are 5 reasons in particular that made us smile in the last episode of Razia:

1. Opens Her Own Tuition Centre

Razia set up her own Tuition centre! She rises up to the challenge life has thrown at her, taking this opportunity not as a struggle but as a chance at her liberation. She sets up her own tuition centre to be able to empower herself and her daughter for the future while realizing her dreams. She knew what she had to do; she had her life’s objective set out. She might have been anxious about it, but she is rewarded.

As she lays out the chitai and carries the blackboard, her brother shows up to help her out but again in a moment of showing us how self-empowered and resilient she is, she signals she is perfectly capable to do it on her own and doesn’t need anybody’s help. Razia is empowered, she got through her struggles alone and will also reach her success alone.

2. The Divorce Setting Her Free + Some Much Needed Slap Backs

The divorce itself was a relief for her and for those of us watching on the screen. She smiled as she was finally released free from the torture, given another chance at life. As her husband divorces her for giving birth to a daughter, Razia smiled after what seemed like ages. the smile of liberation. When he venomously asked daant kya nikal rae hou? Nikalti hou ya dhakay mar kay nikalo? she slapped him, the echoes of which remained for a while but the satisfaction that stayed with us. Though not enough for the hurt, pain, humiliation and torture he gave Razia, it did give Razia her power back.

She returns home and the first thing; her shameless brother is concerned about is why is she back? What about the conditions set that ensured his safety? Not whether she has been okay or the fact she literally just gave birth. And then she slaps him too. We really had been waiting for this one though. The useless brother who put his sister’s life in jeopardy and still had no guilt or remorse to account for. Both these slaps were also a slap on all the faces who were a part of Razia’s sufferings and crushed dreams.

3. She Dances The Dance Of True Happiness

Razia’s little dance on the boat was so well choreographed, spirited and such a heartwarming touch. The scene was absolutely scenic but even more, so it was such a liberating moment. Razia had been brought back to life, her spirit renewed. Perhaps, a lovely reminder how you can get second chances at life, happiness and freedom.

4. She Is Reunited With Her Truest Friend

We all had secretly been waiting for her to be reunited with her truest friend, Mannu. Her meeting mannu was her story coming full circle. Mannu too had grown up, set up a cycle shop – just the perfect place for them to meet again. And just like always helps her out once again. It was great to see how you sustain lifelong friendships, true friends.

5. An Empowered Razia Empowering Her Daughter

Last but not the least or rather the most precious one. She makes sure she is the one who ends the cycle of suppression. She is making sure she gives her daughter the life, she had to fight battles for. To ensure her daughter’s spirit is not broken, her dreams not crushed, and her inner self not left questioning. She might not have had the chance to have her own cycle, but she buys her daughter one. Sawera, Razia’s daughter is allowed to play outside, she is given a fair and equal chance at education, and she is empowered. She even got a bigger cycle!

A reminder, many a times we sadly need to be the ones breaking the cycle.

What a lovely end to a harsh reality of many still. We hope Razia’s story did leave a much-needed impact on our society, pushing us to change ourselves, our thought process as we rid ourselves and those around us of the archaic, unfair practices against girls. If you still haven’t watched Razia, here is your sign to do so! Trust us, you might be missing out on one of the most incredible Pakistani dramas made in a while.
