‘Sang-e-Mar Mar‘ was a drama that we all cherish to this day. It was written by Mustafa Afridi, directed by Saife Hasan, and had a stellar cast with Nauman Ijaz, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Sania Saeed, and Kubra Khan in the lead roles. Ever since it ended in 2017, the drama had found a place in our hearts because of how brilliantly it was executed. So naturally, when Saife Hasan hinted at a sequel of ‘Sang-e-Mar Mar‘ called ‘Sang-e-Mah‘ in the making, fans couldn’t wait to know more!
The Cast
As many of us (who aren’t living under a rock) know, that Pakistan’s beloved Atif Aslam will be making his debut in a TV serial, that too as lead! Such an interesting choice. Fans can’t wait to see him on screen. Saife Hasan told us that Momina Duraid was the one who made the final call in casting Atif Aslam, and fans cannot wait to see him act after ‘Bol‘.
We will be seeing another newbie in the drama, Zaviyar Ejaz, who is Nauman Ijaz’s son (Dawn). It will be interesting to see this father-son duo together for the first time in a TV serial. We are currently watching Zaviyar on ‘Qissa Meherbano Ka‘.
The drama will also star Hania Aamir. Besides Atif, Zaviyar, and Hania, the lead cast is the same as ‘Sang-e-Mar Mar‘; Nauman Ijaz, Sania Saeed, Umair Rana, and Kubra Khan. However, the story will be completely different.
The Story
According to Saife Hasan, we have not made a serial like ‘Sang-e-Mah‘ previously on Pakistani television. It is an “issue-based” story about Pashtun tribal areas. The story revolves around a long-standing tradition called “Ghagh” which means “Ailaan” in Urdu. The tradition involves forcing girls to marry men who have made an “announcement” or a “call” to marry them against the girls’ will.
Saife Hasan told us that this tradition unfortunately still stands in the present day. ‘Sang-e-Mah‘ aims to shed light on it as well as spread awareness about it. He also told us that it is a revenge story. Sounds intriguing, don’t you agree?
When Will ‘Sang-e-Mah’ Air?
Saife Hasan told us that ‘Sang-e-Mah‘ is expected to release in January 2022. It will air on HUM TV under the umbrella of Momina Duraid Productions.
Saife Hasan is a magician behind the camera. His last directorial project ‘Ehd e Wafa‘ has won multiple awards, the most recent one being the IPPA awards for best director and TV serial!
It will be interesting to see how they touch upon a sensitive topic like forced marriages. But, when it’s a collaboration between Saife Hasan and Momina Duraid Production, something extraordinary is bound to happen. Plus, some parts of ‘Sang-e-Mah‘ will also be shot in the mountains, so get ready to see some picturesque views.
